Hi spendlove and also g eli

Thank you for the latest information
Even before I get the certs to verify all this it is coming together so well it has to be correct!!

There are more chr on the IGI for Thomas and Frances, among them a Matilda, a name that is repeated in the next generation
I can't find one for Frances, the only one showing up in Kent is a Francis (male) in 1808
There's a big gap between 1808 and Thomas in 1820 and the rest are in Derbyshire

Ralph Dobson and Frances (nee Goddard) had a son Joseph and the 1851 index shows Ralph and Frances in Nottinghamshire
Joseph Foster Dobson was b in 1835 in Ilkeston
He emigrated to Illinois as that's where I found him on the 1880 US census
He is married with 3 children, found his marr on IGI in Ohio
1900 census says he emigrated in 1865, US citizen for 45 years and he's widowed

Illinois is where Rose Evelyn Goddard ended up after she married her 2nd husband and she and Joseph would have been cousins!!
Far too many coincidences unless these facts are all linked up

Anyway there's lots here to work on especially now it's all expanded!

Many thanks to you both

Hi to all those who worked on this thread

I finally got around to ordering the marriage cert and  yes Thomas Goddard (father Thomas grocer) did indeed marry Mary Smith (d/of George Smith brush maker) in 1842 in Burton and I also sent for a copy of Thomas's will

Many thanks to you all and I will now mark the thread completed
