Hello Harcourt
Some 'Cloughs', ex Natal, migrated north to Honeydew, in the Transvaal, a very, very musical family indeed.
Is it possible that the suburb of Durban, and the Horse Racecourse, both, "Greyville" could be named after your family members.
With, of course, an alteration over time to Greyville, from Greville?
Cheers

Hi I have never come across a race course named Greyville, does it still exist today. I know nothing at all about the Clough family only that a Pricilla Clough b1855 married a Captain Brooke Southwell Greville in Wynberg ,South Africa in 1879 and she was the daughter of Edward Buerdsill Clough.
Their youngest Daughter was Cecil Violet Enid Greville b1896 and she married in 1912 Charles Walmer Harcourt Ascroft who mysteriously went missing after inheriting major shares in the Gold Mine at Blaauwbank,Magaliesburg. She went to England on her own in 1913 and she had a child Peter Charles Algernon Greville Ascroft b1916,later assumed the name Peter Charles Algernon Fulke Greville. He has issue living today in London named Christopher Brooke Fulke Greville b1951,a Historian specializing in Medieval War History.
Did any of the Cloughs become profesional musicians.

Hello Harcourt
What an amazing family!
Not sure if any of the Cloughs were professionals, I was a teenager when I knew them, as family friends of my parents. Their daughter, Patricia, then a late teenager was already well on her way to being a well known artist as well. Her Dad, certainly, to my knowledge had composed operas which were performed.
Yes, Greyville Racecourse, Durban is still the premier racecourse of South Africa and each July, the "The Durban July Handicap" is as prestigious event as Ascot!
Greyville suburb of Durban in the early part of the last C used to be a wonderful area of huge, old colonial homes, sadly, no longer.
In the centre of the Greyville Racecourse is a world famous Durban Golfcourse as well, one of many, in Durban.
Cheers
