Missen's Little Wilbraham
« on: Friday 26 June 09 13:34 UTC (UK) »

Hi
Is there anybody out there also researching the Missen family from Little Wilbraham in Cambridgeshire?
Was hoping there could be possible exchanges of information, I'm getting quite desperate as I have 2 weeks to complete this and I have gaps!!
It's for my great grandmothers 92nd birthday
Can anyone help?

Why not post what it is you need. That way if there are no Missen researchers others might still be able to help.

ok, here we go.....

These are children of John Missen and Ann Taylor

Robert Missen b. 1827 married an Emma after his first wife sarah died in 1855 but I can only find a record for an Emma Morgan in 1869 but I have one of their kids birth certifictes and she is formerlly Godfrey!

Sarah Missen b. 1830 married Henry Harvey in 1855 in newmarket but can't find them after that

Honor Missen b. 1836 married Frank Long in 1857 in chesterton but cant find them after that

Emanuel (Immanuel) b. 1839 travelled to australia in 1874 with a wife, Rebecca, but can only find marriage records for him marrying a sarah or ellen!

Children of Robert Missen and Emma Godfrey?

Elizabeth Missen b. 1863, I know nothing of her

Harry Missen b. 1873 in 1901 found as a border with James and Elizabeth Peacock but nothing after that

Thomas Missen b. 1876, Nothing known about him either

Anybody help me find these people?    Embarrassed

Robert and Emma MISSION are in Little Wilbraham in 1861:

MISSION    Robert 33 Little Wilbraham
MISSION    Emma 26    Little Wilbraham
MISSION    George 8    Little Wilbraham
MISSION    John 3    Little Wilbraham
MISSION    Jose 3 mo Little Wilbraham
MISSION    William 2    Little Wilbraham

I think what you might be coming up against is mistranscriptions/misspellings of their surname.

Hello Rosie
I saw that Immanuel too, he married Matilda Willis in Mar Q 1860 in Newmarket (which would be correct for the Swaffhams),, there is another marriage listed in Dec Q of 1861 where an Immanuel married either a Sarah or an Ellen, but I don't see a marriage to a Rebecca (looking on Freebmd)... so either they're not the same Immanuel, Matilda died after the 1861 census* and he married again and his second wife died so he married a Rebecca... or either Sarah or Ellen has the middle name of Rebecca and preferred to use that!

There's two death references in Newmarket for a Matilda Missen... Jun Q 1861 (which would fit) and Mar Q 1863 (which wouldn't fit!).

Brenda, thank you for that it rang alarm bells - that Emanuel and Matilda are part of my extended tree.  I hadn't looked for them in 1861 or after until now  Grin
