Birth of Julia
« on: Friday 26 June 09 09:45 UTC (UK) »

I am looking for the birth of Julia Wall. She was born in Wexford Ireland in about 1822. She married John Shields and moved to Liverpool she is in the 1861 census in Liverpool but I can not find them in 1841 or 51.
I am trying to trace her parents.
Any suggestions welcome.
Thank you  Cheesy

Hello Sandra,

do you have Julia's name from the birth certificate of a child?

I have looked for Julia in 1861 census in Liverpool and the one I saw has no children with her.
I can see one who is married to John (misspelling of surname) but they are in Warrington.
I am just wondering if they were married in Ireland or England.

best wishes

Sorry forgot to say that in the 1861 census they did live in Warrington, but moved to Liverpool after that. Her name on her childrens birth certificates is Julia Wall. I think because I can not find them in the 1851 census in England that they must have moved her before 1853 when their first child William was born.

That explains it because there are a couple of Julia Shields (ages slightly different) and even a possible marriage but that Julia's surname was different.

Sorry to ask yet another question without offering any help- is that your Julia born 1818 Wexford in the census? (Is that where Wexford comes from?)

thanks

Yes. I know she came from Ireland, but in that one census it says Wexford.
Although she could have come from another part of Ireland.

Sorry- I meant to confirm that the Wexford Julia in the census is your Julia. I would think then that she would have good reason to state it and assume that she came from Wexford.
The trouble is that her marriage will be pre-registration if she was Catholic (1864) - non-catholic marriages were registered from 1845.

yes I think they were Catholic. Looks like I have hit a brick wall with this one.
What about a marriage to a John Shields?

You would really need the area for the Parish records.
As I said, 1845 : Non-Catholic marriages were registered but Catholic only from 1864  Sad
