INSKIP families of Northill/Old Warden
« on: Friday 26 June 09 16:32 BST (UK) »

Hello - seeing as it's a bit quiet on a wet afternoon.

Can anyone find a link that joins these two Inskip families of Northill

George Inskip married Elizabeth Beaumont 1789 Biggleswade, & had 11 children baptised at Northill between 1790 & 1806. Their first child Mary 1790 married George Youd in 1821 at Northill.

John Inskip married Hannah Horsford 1798 at Kimbolton and had the fisrt 2 children baptised there 1799 & 1801, & another 4 children baptised at Northill 1804 - 1818, This last child was Robert Inskip who married Elizabeth Partridge at Sharnbrook in 1840.  John Inskipp baptised 1775 Northill, parents Edward & Mary.

I'm trying to link my Partridges to the Youds via the Inskips

Thanks in advance.

If you want more details please contact me (sorry thought I was at work !)

Regards John

A quick look doesn't show anything obvious.

Edward and Mary didn't baptise a son George, so George and John don't seem to have been brothers.

Edward married in 1768 at Clifton "of Old Warden", but there's no baptism for him (he wasn't the Edward baptised in 1757 at Old Warden - I wondered if he was a late baptism, but he wasn't). He was buried at Northill on 6 Nov 1828 age 79.

George was "of Ickwell in Northill" on marriage at Biggleswade. He may have been the George, son of William & Mary, baptised in Old Warden in 1755. It may have been this George who was buried at Old Warden on 23 Apr 1823 age 68. He wasn't buried at Northill

I'm sure they must be connected somehow, but without a baptism for Edward it's going to be difficult, unless you can find a will which names "my son Edward" as a benefeciary

Enjoy Crete

David,

Thanks for info...... from the Monumental Inscriptions of St Leonards. Old Warden, we have George Inskip of Upper Caldecote (= Northill) who departed this life April  17th 1823  age 68 years (making him born 1755); also of Elizabeth Inskip relict of the above who departed this life August 5 1834 age 66 years (born 1768)

The next grave is that of Harriot & Thomas Inskip, children of George & Elizabeth Inskip of Upper Caldecote who died October 8th 1843 aged 51 & 36 years ; this death was sudden when returning from Steventon Church they with their friend Mrs Anderson were all accidently drowned in the river Ouse at Oakley, Beds

nb. this ties in with Harriott chr 21/7/91  & Thomas chr 30/5/1805 both at Northill to George & Elizabeth Inskip. Also Thomas was executor of his brother in law George Youd's will of 1836

Also noted that on the TNA site there are 6 wills of Inskips of Northill & Old Warden that can be dowloaded at £3.50 each

Anyway must go - Thurs morning I'm off to Crete; I will see you at Archives on Fri 10th;  PS, I did put a reply to the Dilley of Wilstead (now closed) topic

cheers John

Both families may stem from William & Mary Inskip of Old Warden.

This pair baptised Edward on 12 Oct 1743 & George on 9 Jan 1755 at Old Warden along with other children, Mary, William, Avis, Elizabeth, Susan & Thomas.

Edward (of Old Warden) married Mary Handscombe at Clifton in 1768

George (of Ickwell) married Elizabeth Beumont in 1789 at Biggleswade

William Inskip, yeoman farmmer of Old Warden died 1776 age 60 & his wife Mary died 1778 age 62. His Will from TNA proven on 8 March 1780 has as executors his sons George & Thomas; & makes provision of his assets to the above named wife & all children; (although Mary is now married to Henry Dobson of Huntingdon) & there is also provision to his good friend Thomas Tingey of Old Warden.

So it looks like I have that link I was looking for.

However ......

While Edward Inskip who married Mary Handscombe at Clifton in 1768 may well be son of William & Mary Inskip;   I now feel they (Edward & Mary) are not the parents of John Inskip, baptised 2/7/1775 at Northill & other 5 children baptised there 1777 - 1788.

These may be the children of Edward * Inskip & Mary Jones who married at Northill 30/09/1774. { *  to find this marriage on IGI you have to enter EDW Inskip}  On these children's baptisms Edward is described as a bricklayer.

Can anyone find this Edwards baptism ?

The NBI has burials at Northill of Edward Inskip on 6 Nov 1828 age 79 (= born 1749) & Mary Inskip on 4 Feb 1824 age 72 (= born 1752).

regards John
