Hot off the press in this long-running saga:

I've just been contacted by a hitherto unknown relative of Susannah Perkins (descended from her brother) who had spent some time at Hunts RO and has discovered 3 older children for William Church & Susannah, all born Godmanchester:

William bap 25 Oct 1790
John bap 9 Jun 1793
Elizabeth 7 Feb 1796

I'm assuming that the first William died and my ancestor was named after him.  Just to remind you, I have

Susannah c1801
William 1808
Sarah c1811

It did seem odd that there was a gap between William & Susannah's marriage in 1789 and the birth of what I thought was their first child in 1801.

From this relative I have information about two generations older than Susannah, including her grandfather, who married 4 times and eventually drowned.

I am trying to research the ancestors of Sarah Ann Church who married Josephus Green in 1871.  She was born in Huntingdon and I believe from the 1851 census that she was the daughter of John Church b about 1815 in Godmanchester.  He was a brickmaker at the time of the census living at the brickyard, Westbury on Trym.

Having found your info on Rootschat I wondered whether you had found any other children born to William and Susannah after Sarah in 1811...ie John 4 years later!

His name seems to be a name used in your family.  His children were Henry G; Elizabeth; William; Sarah Ann; Mary Ann - so a few of the names in your family there too.

Gillg - You have already helped in on another part of my family who lived in Glos so it is interesting to see that we might have this "Church" connection too!

Kind Regards

Hi fisherj

William Church and Susannah Perkins had children William 1790 (presume he died young), John 1793, Elizabeth 1796 (these first three from another researcher who found their baptisms in the PR, see my previous message), Susannah 1801, my William 1808 and Sarah 1811.

William 1808 & his wife Mary Ambridge did have a son John, baptised 1832 in Gt Paxton, but possibly born in Godmanchester, but he married Elizabeth Ebutt.  He was a brickmaker,  I also have another John Church, born Spaldwick, Hunts 1821, who married Elizabeth Burton in 1841.  He was a tailor, and came from a different part of the family, not related to William.

I have found several Church families living in Godmanchester, some of whom were brickmakers, but I can't find anyone to match your John, I'm afraid.

I'll take another look at my old notes and see what I can find.

Regards

curious..... there seems to have been a Church monopoly on !

"My" John Church appears in 1851 married to Mary Ann from Ireland.

I've spend the last couple of hours  Shocked reading and re-reading these messages looking for clues.

thanks for your email
