KIDMAN - Biggleswade
« on: Saturday 01 August 09 11:05 UTC (UK) »

I was wondering if anyone could help me with Grandparents burial place.I live in Scotland and don't know this area.

They are Percy Julian Kidman & Gertrude Kidman (Partridge)
Percy Kidman died 22 December 1944 Gertrude Kidman died 11 July 1953.They were married 1904.

They lived at Sunderland Farm, Biggleswade. Percy's parents are buried in St. Georges churchyard, Edworth.

Any information would be very much appreciated.

Regards,

Cupcake

Hello Cupcake,

Can you clarify something, was it Percy Charles Kidman who married Gertrude Partridge in Jul-Sept 1904 in Ampthill RD. It looks like Julian was his father's middle name.

From their death dates I have found the index entry. Percy C was 69 registered at Cambridge & Gertrude age 85 registered at Bedford.

Percy's parents were John Julian & Louisa & as you say their burial was at Edworth. These are recorded in the Monumental Inscriptions done by the Beds FHS in 1997, & in that same plot is their daughter Decima Omega (10th & last  Tongue ?) now married as Thompson, she died 21 August 1979. There are lots of other Kidmans recorded there but not a Percy or a Gertrude.

Now ... Gertrude Partridge.......

.... was she born 1869 Pavenham & daughter of Samuel Partridge & Eliza - who in 1881 are running the 'George & Dragon' Inn. Samuel was born Sharnbrook & I do have him in my tree, being the great-grandson of my gt-gt-gt-grandfather Thomas Partridge, but on another family line.

Regards John

Hello John,

Thank you so much for the information. I only have the information my mother has written down. She has Percy Charles Kidman married Gertrude Partridge 1904- no place mentioned. Their children:

Charles Julian Kidman- May 14 1906
Stanley Partridge Kidman- April 22 1908
Maurice Arthur Kidman  - Sept. 25 1910
Blanche Kidman- July 26 1914 (my Mother)

I have Percy's parents as
James Julian Kidman b. 13 May 1848
Louisa Kidman b.2 April 1847 They were married 9 October 1872.

You are correct, Decima Omega was the 10th and last. Would have been nice to find Percy & Gertrudes burial place. I took my mother's ashes down to Biggleswade and had the buried with her Grandparents at Edworth.

Thank you once again.

Regards,

Margaret

Helo John,

I have found some newspaper clippings which say they were buried in Biggleswade.

Percy Charles Kidman: The funeral took place on Boxing Day 1944 at Biggleswade Cemetery, where the Vicar(Rev. S.B.Farbridge officiated.

Gertrude Kidman: The funeral took place at Biggleswade on Tuesday (July ? 1953) where the the (Rev.K.D.Greenaway officiated.

As you said, Gertrude was born at Pavenham. She died at her home "Highfields". Pavenham.

Do you know if Sunderlad Farms still exsist.

Hello Margaret

If you search for Sunderland Farm, Biggleswade using Google Maps it finds you Sunderland Hall Farm off the Biggleswade Road out of Dunton, Beds.

Also see  http://sunderlandhall.com/  it says  "a family farm for generations"

but on 1911 census they were at West Sunderland Farrm, which is the same location, but it is a separate farm

Hello John,

Thank you for the information and addresses for Sunderland Farm.

Could you tell me where the Biggleswade Cemetery is. I will try to get down there later to find my Grandparents burial place.

John,

I have looked at the West Sunderland Farm and looks similar to Pastures Farm, Hail Weston, St.Neots which my uncle, Stanley Kidman owned.

I was just a young girl then, but brings back some memories.

Margaret,

If you go to the photo of West Sunderland Farm track (on the geograph link)

.... go to the top right hand corner of the picture to the compass pointers, & click on 'W' you go to the west & get a picture & map of the cemetery.

** note there are 2 cemetries in Biggkeswade , one off Stratton Way & one in Drove Road
