Hello

I would like to ask for help to find two baptism records. I have been unable to find the births on the Free BMD or the Lancashire BMD and have exhausted all possibilities. I have been told that it was common for births not to be registered but it is likely the children will have been baptised. I have not researched in Parish Records before so I am not sure how big an "ask" this is.
On the 1861 census the family were living in Sarton/Larton (curly writing!), Chorlton-upon-Medlock, Municipal Ward: St Lukes, Ecclesiastical District: St Lukes. In 1871 they were living in York Street, Chorlton-upon-Medlock, Municipal Ward: St Lukes, Ecclesiastical District: All Saints.
The two baptisms I am looking for are John Grant born c1852 and Michael Grant born c1855 and according to the census their parents are Patrick and Catherine.
The family were likely to have been Roman Catholic and the census states they were both born in Manchester.
Both John and Michael were married in 1883; John at St Augustines (RC) and Michael at St Andrews (CofE). Michael was buried in 1905 in St Josephs RC Cemetery at Moston.
I think I need to visit the Central Library in Manchester to find the records but am unable to do so as I live outside the UK.
Thank you.

Hi Garstonite and Dotty,

Thanks for your help and interest.
Sorry to say that John Adam Alfred Grant isn't "mine" (oh how I wish he was because then I could make progress) - he was the son of Peter Grant and Harriet Garing and was married to Alice. My John Grant was the son of Patrick Grant and Catherine and was married to Mary Cannon.
I have the Michael Grant birth certificate Dec 1854 8d 17 and he is the son of Patrick Grant and Mary Ryan. I have found a Patrick Grant/Mary Ryan marriage Mar 1854 8d 35 but can't be 100% sure these are mine because I can't pin down a Mary Ryan death (the 1854 and 1857 ones don't fit) and the age of Patrick Grant when he married is a long way away from his age on the 1861 census. So although I haven't discounted them as yet, they are at the moment.
The Patrick Grant/Catherine McCarthy marriage at Manchester Cathedral in 1856 refers to another Patrick and Catherine (a younger couple) who I have found living at Water Street, Manchester in 1861. According to the marriage details the ages and occupations fit exactly with this couple.
There is another John Grant born in Manchester in 1855 and this one is the son of David Grant and Catherine Murray/Grant/Sheridan.
Thanks,
Luzzu
