Tracing my grandfather's family CRAIG from Newcastle area. Thomas Henry Craig born in Lambton 1887 his parents listed as James Craig and Cecilia (or Celia). I'd like to find birth record and parents of James Craig (and his marriage record to Cecilia )  thankyou for any help.
Another question too if I may - is it possible to access NSW census records online? regards

Hi Mcvicars

You can have a good search on the NSW BDM online website.
Once you have the registration numbers for your events, you can order your certificates or hire an agent to assist with transcription.

http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/Index/IndexingOrder.cgi/search?event=births

There is not much useful census material available in Aust.
We use instead electora lroll and bmd and immigration data extensively.

Perhaps you should look at the RESOURCES at the top of the Aust. board.
A lot of helpful links there.

The only marriage from 1850 to 1910

1903      James Craig and Cecilia Lynch at Balmain North

NSW BDM

Their first child was born in Refern in 1880, so a marriage in Balmain North is possible. I'm wondering if the above 1908 is a type error.

Their first child's name was Isabella and there is a James born to a James and Isabella in 1838. That would make him 42 when his first child was born. It is possible.  Undecided

there are 8 children from 1877  to  1894  born  to James Craig and Cecelia and variations of  the name including a James  who  could  be  the  one married in 1903.

It is possible  that James and his wife were married overseas or another state

a copy of  Thomas henry Craig birth certificate  shoud tell  you  where and when his parents were born and married

http://cemindex.arkangles.com/inscriptions.php
there are a number of Craig deaths here including Cecelia  and  her daughter Isabella and one James.

Wow - as usual an amazingly helpful bunch. Kris & Jenn - thankyou so much for making the Scottish connection. Ironically I started researching my maternal garandmother (Craigs are paternal) and am currenlty in UK and soon to visit my grandmother's birthplace in Scotland (the Rootschat community have even led me to the graves of my great and great great grandparents nearby so will visit there too). I do have a one day trip to Glasgow altho at this late stage may not be able to trace anything of the Craig's to the area - altho now armed with your info I may be able to post to the Scotland site and see what turns up. BIG thankyou again
