GILES family, Woburn sands and Aspley Guise
« on: Friday 26 June 09 15:48 UTC (UK) »

I would be grateful for any information on the Giles family, my paternal grandmothers family. One of her uncles had a timber business in Aspley Heath, Woburn Sands. I have quite a comprehensive family tree but am missing information. My grandmother was Dora Giles, who married George faulkner of Leighton Buzzard in 1911. Sadly, she died in 1946 at Oakley House, Bedfordshire where my grandfather was estate manager.

Yes. this is my grandmother and great grandparents. I am trying to fit together the rest of the family. Arthurs brother was the one who had the timber business - the family story was that he was quite well off, but you know what family stories are! I think he was probably a bit better off than his neighbours but thats about it! i remember my great aunt Maggie saying that her father had to pay 3d a week for her to go to school as he was in 'trade'. She was a very grand old thing and owned a row of cottages, but she was quite poor as an old lady. I think Arthur Giles drank his cash away! Dora was a domestic servant, so was Maggie. I'm just curious about the timber business and any other info about the rest of the family. Many thanks for your reply
