Granddad, nanna and great-grandad - restore/date please!
« on: Saturday 27 June 09 11:10 UTC (UK) »

Hi everyone

Here are two more of my new photo treasure trove - my granddad (black and white) and great-granddad (sepia). My granddad was in the Navy, his dad in the Army.

For help with dating:
Poor Granddad only lived from 1925 - 1956
Great granddad lived from 1904 - 1976

As you can see, unfortunately great-granddad's has got a bit ripped and creased over the years, and my granddad's pic is obviously a copy, but has  some light patches on his face - can anyone improve them please?

Edit - there are three further photos into this thread - two more of grandad (one round one borrowed from Nanna's pictureframe, and one at his wedding; and a portrait one of Nanna. Nanna's is very liney, think it must have been copied on a photocopier!!

If anyone could create (thanks Wendy for the idea!) a collaboration photo of nanna and grandad (as no-one has one!) that would be lovely.

Many thanks,

Katie

PS Sorry I put 'completed' on this, I'm an idiot  Embarrassed

Wendy, you are such a star. It looks like the true photo I'm sure it once was, and a 100% improvement on my poor copy.

Xin - thank you! Unfortunately my nanna lost my granddad (the one you are talking about) very quickly to cancer when he was aged only 30, my mum was only four. Hence the few photo's they have mean lots. The only other two we have are below.

Wendy - I'm going to print copies off of your versions for my mum and nanna.

Again - many thanks, your work has made my day! Smiley

Glad you're pleased with my work Katie.  I only have two photos of my Grandfather who was killed in ww1 so I know how precious these are to you.

Have tidied the other two up for you.  Hope they are OK.

LOL I know, as a kid we had the round photo in a frame on the sideboard at my mum's (still is!) - I genuinely thought my granddad was Elvis. Maybe that's why I love Elvis now  Smiley
