The Nathaniel Hall aged 5 in 1841 is living in Thompson Street, Byker. A couple of streets away from Byker Ropery, where the target Nathaniel Hall was living working from 1854 onwards. Still can't see him in 1851 either though.

From the Newcastle Courant, Friday 1 Sept 1854, Marriages Section.
At All Saints Church on the 26th ult. Mr Nathaniel Hall, rope maker, to Catherine, daughter of Mr John Turnbull. Same day, Mr Thomas Doeg, waterman, to Mrs Elizabeth Dixon. All of Byker.
Nathaniel must have been working at the Byker rope works in 1854. He was living at a street called Byker Fields Ropery in 1861 and working as a rope maker. The Nathaniel Hall in 1841 was living only 2 streets away, with a household member working there. I know he's a bit young and it says he's born Scotland (as are most of the household, so it could be a mistake). But given the reasonably uncommon name and very close location, he must be a good candidate.
1841 census, Thompson St., Byker, All Saints Parish, Robert Hamilton, 70, Joiner, b. Scotland, Alice Hamilton, 60, b. Scotland, Robert Hamilton, 25, Journeyman Rope Maker, b. Northumberland, Mary Hamilton, 30, b. Scotland, Alice Hamilton, 5, b. Scotland, Alice Bows, 5, b. Scotland, Nathaniel Hall, 5, b. Scotland.

Can't see them in 1851, but there is a baptism that may be significant.
7 June 1829, St.Nicholas Parish Newcastle, Nathaniel Hamilton, son of Nathaniel and Margaret, Abode - Westgate Street, Quality, trade or profession - Joiner.
Its possible that this Nathaniel was an illegitimate son of Nathaniel Hall, with Margaret fathers trade recorded under Quality. The elder Robert Hamilton in 1841 census was a Joiner. Needs a lot more checking, but its a possibility.

There is a Mary, presumably a daughter, living with the Hamiltons in 1841, but looking at their child trail on the IGI they had about a dozen kids in Northumberland, so she is not necessarily the only potential mother of Nathaniel in 1841 census. I can't see a Margaret though, possibly born in Scotland like Mary.
I Know its just a possibility, but Nathaniel is not such a common name, and this is a Nathaniel son of Nathaniel, with a Hamilton connection, born at the right time in the right place (on the census he always gives his birth place as Newcastle, not Newcastle All Saints (ie Byker) that the rest of his family get.
Quality, Trade or Profession is just one of the columns on the baptism record. Usually the fathers trade is put down, unless its a posh family. I'm just going one further and wondering if in the case of an illegitimate birth if the mothers fathers trade would be put down?
Its a long shot, but its a possibility.
