A.com Ignored Hint ~ Needed Back
« on: Saturday 27 June 09 14:32 UTC (UK) »

Undecided Got one hint for a person, thought it duff and put it on Ignore. Then realised it was right!

Anyone know how to access it again, please?  It takes a fresh Hint arriving to show the Ignored Hints, and that's not likely to happen now  Sad

Thanks for any help.

Maybe you should delete your browser cache and Ancestry cookie?

It is always worth a try.

Hi

How about deleting a census record that you have attached to that person, switch off, and then go back into programme and see if it will give you a hint for that census again.

Give me the tree & person details.  I will add that person to my treee which should (might?) trigger a new hint.  Then you can read the ignored hints.

Worth a try?

How about starting a new tree with that person,
and searching for records from there?

Give me the tree & person details.  I will add that person to my tree .....

Grin Brilliant! Cheers, Linda. That's got to be the smoothest option. Let's try that first, please. See it they resurface.

Name is Louisa Burge. I had her down as Born 1876. Wells, Somerset.

System threw me a Marriage for her. Could even have been married in Wells. I only know it said she was born there.

I now have reason to believe that marriage was correct. I've tried searching the general results and it doesn't appear to be therem Maybe it's hiding it in my (post ignore) results now?

If this doesn't work, I'll start trying the other suggestions.

Thanks, all!  Smiley

Just looking for Louisa Burge born Wells Somerset in 1876.
Wells is a registration district but I can't see her in ancestry, or her birth registration in freebmd.   What census have you got her in?

Silvery; Welcome to the hell that is Burge! These lot are buggers! Fact is, I had next to nothing on any of them as they seemed to do the escape and evasion routine every Census night. Thus I work them by buying their traceable Cert's.

Louisa was actually Born Aug-1878, in Melcombe Regis, Dorset. Her parents, William and Elizabeth got about a bit  Wink

Old story then; Illiterate people and she'd only ever known M'Regis. Figured she'd always been there.

So; Try the last page of 1861? See if they're in a tent or vardo? Fine. But there's a LOT of areas around Melcombe. I have a sloooow Connection. I'll have the parents MC next week. They married in Melcombe, 1891. From the MC I hope to be able to better pin point where they were stopping in '61. Then I might find them on the '61 back page.

Meanwhile; They'll just do ye head in!  Grin

Cheers, Linda. That's my best hope ~ and I do realise it can take a day or three before A.com coughs up the results. They like to keep us grateful, eh?

Silvery; They were Travellers. I now ~ thanks to the generosity of the brilliant folks here on RootsChat ~ have a handle on the census rules for such people. But, even so, my later rellies duck and dive around the records. It seems they'd record a birth if they just happened to be passing through a suitable town. Otherwise? It just got forgotten about.

My Grands and Greats are an absolute nightmare!  Sad

There's no Louisa on that census return I've put  up.  As William is so much older perhaps it's a second marriage for Elizabeth and they are in another name in earlier censuses.

http://www.weymouth.gov.uk/home.asp?sv=810

In the above Put in surname only  =   Burge.   There is a drop down list to choose.

There is a Louisa Burge 1878 death in the above website, and also one for William Burge 1882.   It says his occupation was grinder, which fits well with the census description of cutler.

So Elizabeth would have been free to marry again.   And the family could be lurking under another surname in the other censuses.

Shocked Whoahhh!!! Silvery; This is Dynamite!

Louisa Burge: Born 7-Aug-1878, Melcombe Regis. I have her BC. She's my girl.

Birth Registered on the 19-Aug-1878!

Now you've shown me a Dead Louisa Burge on 26-Aug-1878, in Melcombe???

Oh my lord! So she may Well have keeled over?! I'm Cert' shopping!  Grin

As for the dead William? They had a son named William too. But everyone vanishes after the 1881 census. No trace of a soul on 1901 ( Huh). My money's on the Old Bill. Aged 62 on the 1881. Plenty old enough for those days and his life style. Still a " Cutler " but, don't worry; That was a posh term for a Knife Grinder. He's down as " Grinder " in 1870, on young Bill's BC. Terms are interchangeable. I'll be grabbing That Cert' too!

So; The father dies and then virtually the whole family vanishes inside the next ten years, eh? What in blazes happened there?! I aim to find out  Cool

May I just say that, after Years of smashing my head against these buggers, Anything is an absolute Red Letter Day for me. And you've just handed me a cart load!  Grin Can't begin to Thank You enough! Please have a damn fine cigar, or a huge bar of chocolate ~ which ever turns ye screw ~ on me. And I'll be raising a glass to ye tonight. Made my bloody day!  Grin

Linda? I suspect this has cleared it up. See; I'd found " Louisa Burge, B. 1876, Wells. " I pencilled her in. Couple of years off the mark, according to the census', but one lives with that, no? Also, the family turn up in Wells, 1879. So, I figured, Louisa thought she was born in Wells. There may have been just days in it.

Then, thinking those lines, I spotted the Wells marriage. Thought, " No. I'm now looking at her BC. Born in MR ..... " Shot the Hint. Then thought maybe the above. With me? I was of two minds. But, now, with what Silvery has shown us?  I strongly suspect my Louisa was dead as a door nail on 26-Aug-1878 and That 'Louisa Burge' of Wells was just that: Another girl, born in Wells. Brought up in Wells. Married in Wells.

Should that Hint resurface then, please do let us know. Meanwhile, I'm off to buy the DC and see if the sorry little bundle in Melcombe was my one. If so? Cracked it!  Wink

Once again; Thank You! I don't think there ever existed a more generous and kind hearted bunch than Genealogists  Smiley
