Hello,
I am looking for the marriage in NSW for Fred SWINNERTON to Rose Mary BOWLEY. They arrived in Sydney in 1912, so the marriage I assume would be some time shortly after this.
Thanks Swinno.

Dear Swinno, I have checked from 1910-1940 on the NSW BDM site under Swinnerton and Bowley and they don't seem to be there. There possibly is a spelling error, or perhaps they had already married or married in another state.
Here is the link for NSW BDM

Cheers Siouxsie

Hi Siouxsie,
Yeah I had checked that site before and could not find them. I wondered if I was doing something wrong. As far as I know they stayed in NSW for the rest of their natural.
Thanks swinno.

Dear Swinno,
Maybe they were married before they arrived? (Or on board ship perhaps)
If you want to give the NSW BDM site a real workout you could try multiple spelling variations on their names!
Just did a check on the QLD BDM with no result. https://www.bdm.qld.gov.au/IndexSearch/BirIndexQry.m

Hi Siouxsie,
When they left London in Dec 1911 they were not married. So yes possible they married on board the ship Ballarat on the voyage to Australia. I just checked the link you sent, but no result either. In 1914 when Fred Swinnerton enlisted it states that he is married.

Dear Swinno, Just checked the NSW BDM again, with just Fred and Rose and Frederick and Rose for the period 1910-1920, but nothing even close to their surnames.
Where did the Ballarat land in Oz? Did it stop off anywhere else perhaps?
I don't know how shipboard marriages are entered into the BDM system......maybe another Rootschatter has some further clues.
Cheers Siouxsie

Sands Directories, 1932/3 show a Fred SWINNERTON, 20 Raymond Rd, Neutral Bay NSW
Electoral Rolls 1930 Fred Pilkington (clerk) and Rose Mary (home duties) SWINNERTON at 218 Addison Rd, Sydenham
1936 Fred Pilkington (clerk) and Rose Mary (home duties) SWINNERTON at 93 Hayberry St, Crows Nest NSW
(The rolls I have access to only have 1930 and 1936 for Sydney) None of this helps in finding Rose and Fred's marriage.

Hi Guy's,
Many thanks for the replies to my posting. All what has been posted is about the same Fred and Rose Swinnerton. Fred gave another place of birth when he signed up for WW1. Birmingham England is the correct area. As for the marriage it is nowhere to be found. Am I right in saying the birth certificate of any children will give marriage details? when and where.
Thanks Swinno

Did you notice in his dossier at NAA that Fred enlisted 21 Sep 1914, in Melbourne? Maybe they married there...?

If that's a welcome to me then thank you, that's lovely!
I also just saw this in the NSW BDM index:
16123/1914 - [death] Marie R SWINNERTON (f: Fred, m: Rose M).
The large ref no. suggests to me it's later in the year, at which time Fred was supposed to be enlisting in Melbourne and then away at war.
If she's definitely a daughter, I wonder where Marie R was born? Her birth must have been close to the marriage, so would it be worth getting the death cert to find her birthplace (as maybe a lead to find the location of marriage)? (Maybe a transcription?)
And in answer to your earlier question , I have NSW birth certs in the late 1800s & they show the date and place of the parents' marriage.
