1861 census - George PARR
« on: Friday 26 June 09 21:43 UTC (UK) »

I would appreciate finding a George Parr b abt 1856 in Derby in the 1861 census
Not sure who his parents are at this stage though his mother or a sibling could be an Eliza as he named his first daughter Eliza

There are only 2 George Parrs showing up on the BMD indexes in Derby
Jun 1856 and Jun 1857
The Jun 1856 one is closer to his age in the 1881 census

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Hi Wendy

Thank you very much for the censuses - entirely possible
George was a mechanical draughtsman in 1881 and there is an Eliza in that family

Just checked the 1881 and it looks like Samuel remarried an Emma so a dau named after a mother who had just died would be appropriate

Will have to get George's marriage cert and see if it all pieces together
He got married in Nottingham and moved to Toxteth Park but the children were christened in Derby
George died very young as his wife remarried in 1884 and I have just discovered she emigrated to Illinois

So lots to go on here and many thanks

Hi SC

I do hope they are your family. Glad to have helped. I would be interested to know the outcome of your certs. It does seem likely as George married in Nottinghamshire and Samuel came from there. Radcliffe on Soar is right on the border of Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire. Below you can find out about Litchurch.

Hi wendy

Thank you for the reference to Litchurch - it's very interesting
Maybe why in 1881 George just said b Derby since Litchurch didn't exist any more

Will post any further relevant info as it becomes available for any others who may have an interest in this thread
