MCNALLY Catharine Christiana - Making progress on 'Australia' Post board
« on: Friday 03 July 09 09:47 UTC (UK) »

I posted this request in Australia - but we think she's what we call a 'swimmer', as we can't find her arriving.   Anyone with any knowledge of her please share it with me - Please!!     Cheesy

Born about 1790 and definitely died in 1857 at Killymoon House, Fingal in Tasmania.    Known for a while as Widow Ransom. Though she and Thomas never married, he is believed to have fathered her children, and Thomas and Christina were business partners in two Inns of very good repute, in and near Hobart in 1820s.

Catharine Christiana MCNALLY first appears positively in Tasmania in 1820, as unmarried mother of Thomas McNally/Ransom.   We believe she also had a daughter Anne in 1817 but I can't find the record for this either in Gov't records or church registers.  Did find Thomas on baptism register!   (And believe me - those early government people sure kept good records! - they loved lists - of everything!)

She seems to have been known as Christina - on marriage certificate to Frederick Von Stieglitz (1830, after Thomas's death)) and on grave stone and death register,  -  but Catharine Christiana in Will of Thomas Ransom Snr.

Ever hopeful!   Roll Eyes
