Redmans form Thanet
« on: Sunday 28 June 09 05:01 UTC (UK) »

Hi, I'm new to this but am trying to find family history details for William Richard REDMAN, abt.1838 and Caroline WOOD marr. 1866 to William Redman. Apart from them living in Cuba Cottage, Ramsgate, Kent, I have no other info. Ideally I'd like to go further back as I pretty much have everyone up to date.

HI Crakaz

Welcome to rootschat!

I'd like to be able to help but one quick question first.

Do you have them individually in the census years 1841 to 1901, or is this the kind of info that you're looking for?

Hi Crakaz, and welcome to rootschat Grin

The most reliable way to take both Caroline and William back a generation would be to buy their marriage cert.
You say they married in 1866. If you go to the website   freebmd you can search for their marriage and get the reference number from there and then order the cert. 7 GBP.   It will give you the names of the fathers of both bride and groom and the fathers' occupation also.

Hi Charlotte,

I have William R (I believe  Richard) Redman and Caroline (nee WOOD) Redman listed in the 1881 Census but none before that time. Census details are;

RG number: RG11 Piece: 989 Folio: 72 Page: 19

It lists their children which I have accounted for but I wish to find the parents of both Richard and Caroline. I've been told that I should order their marriage certificate which should give these details.

I'll go to BDM and see what I can find.

Thanks for your help,

Craig

Hi again Craig, The marriage cert should take you back to the father's of the bride n groom. Then you can check out the census for the father's etc.

Civil Reg came in 1837 so when you get events before that- BDMs it then becomes harder as you need to search parish regs.   !851 census will give you names of places where people were born so that is a pointer to which regs to search.

That's looking ahead a bit  perhaps.

let us know how you get on with getting the marriage cert.  Grin
