Looking stupid, but well protected!

Hi,
Anybody have a connection or information on a William Caunce who was born c.1820 in Norton. He later married a Lydia (maybe nee Lister) in Manchester before moving to Bootle, then Lathom, then ??
Any info gratefully received,
