Ancestry's Enhanced Image Viewer in Internet Explorer 8
« on: Sunday 28 June 09 07:26 UTC (UK) »

Hello all

I have been using Enhanced Image Viewer without any problems in IE7.  However, now that I have installed IE8.0 my computer is claiming that Enhanced Image Viewer is not installed.  Several times I have gone through the download procedure, at the end of which the message "Setup completed successfully" appears.  However, when I then try to continue to view a document I get the message "The Enhanced Image viewer is not installed on this machine."

Any ideas gratefully received!

Hi Anna

You might notice a little pink bar under the main toolbars asking you to allow the Enhanced Viewer to run - click on that and all functionality will be restored!  I think it actually mentioned running Activ-x controllers or somesuch.

Kind regards, Arranroots (who had the same problem!)

Aha - I'd been clicking on the pink bar, which got me nowhere (other than  making the pink bar disappear) but upon now revisiting it I see that by right-clicking on it I can make it work.

Thanks, Arranroots Smiley

Anna, you need to check the ActiveX settings in IE8, and make sure ActiveX is enabled.

If that doesn't work, try going back to the basic viewer (the link to do that is via Help, at the bottom of the page) then re-select "Install Enhanced Viewer" again.

If that failed, my next step would be to clear the cookie cache in IE8 (this will destroy all your auto site logins for all sites, so make sure you have the passwords for them all !).

Enhanced viewer does work in IE8 - I'm using it myself.
