I would be most greatful if anyone could help me with the following information. I am researching the Stephenson family of Hull who moved to Islington, London throughout the 1870's and 1880's.
My main area of research is on Robert Stephenson, who changed his name to Roslyn Donston, as a pen name. I have Robert's birth, marriage and death information, and all of the census returns including 1911, but I am interested in his Brother, Richard Stephenson.
Richard resided in Gibson Square, Islington in the 1881 Census, with his wife Minna and they are to be found there in the 1891 census. Richard was born in East Sculcoates in 1840. It appears as though Minna is french, but I cannot find a marriage certificate or death certificate for them, or if they had any children. I have used online resources, and even visited Islington Local Studies and Archives but couldn't find anything.
I am also looking for Isabella Richardson, who resided at 22 Highbury Crescent in the 1881 census. She was the sister of Robert and Richard. Again, I have all her census entries but can find no date of death.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks, Mike Covell

Hi Mike, Do you have them in1901. Minna L appears to be in Paddington Rg13/9 39/14 and Richard appears to be in the Windsor Hotel, derby RG13/3213 45/4 There is a good candidate on the 1911 census search Minna Louise Stephenson b 1854 living in Islington, also Ricardo Stephenson also living in Islington. To get more details , if you think it may be them, requires payment for credits. You would find out if they had any children and how long they ve been married.
On freebmd there is a marriage Dec 1876 Newcastle upon Tyne Minna Louise Alley Same page Richard(Richardo) Stephenson
May not be them, why would they marry there?
Best wishes Cathy

Cheers Cathy. I have all of Richard stephenson's census entries. He lived in Hull, where he is found on Church street until he left in the late 1870's to move to London. He was a former councillor, and corrupt too, getting into lots of trouble with the law, and leaving Hull to start a fresh because of this.
Thanks anyway, it's greatly appreciated. I am due back in London in October, so if nothing new is discovered, I will look into him and Minna again.

Hi etc3495 I have a 165 page time line for Robert covering his birth, marriage, death, all the census entries, christening, burgess rolls, polling books, trade directories, telephone directories, customs records, business records, criminal records, newspaper articles, and much much more.
Robert was born April 20th 1841 to Richard and Isabella Stephenson in the parish of Sculcoates. Stephenson changed his name by 1871, when he was known as Roslyn D' Stephenson, this was a pen name.
Stephenson married Annie Deary in 1876, at the St James Church in Islington. In later years Stephenson became known as Roslyn D'Onston.
Most of my research, but not all, is posted here,
