Hi,
I've taken some photographs for a fellow rootschatter. I have managed to put them on to my computer (a first) but then I tried to upload one.
A message came back that it couldn't be uploaded as it was too big a file or took too long and to ask for help here.
Looking at the photograph it said in its stats above it that it is 2,350KB. That is 1,850 too many. It is just one small photograph - how do I make it 500KB or smaller.

I use Irfanview, recommended to me by other Rootschatters. Google it and download for free. It's very simple to use for people like me who are not into all the technical things related to photographs, although I think if you know how you can do magical things with it.

Thank-you both. I will have a look at them tomorrow and see how I get on.

The better alternative would be to get the other person's email address, and send the photos as email attachments, and then you won't have to sacrifice quality or size

When i send a photo uploaded from my cam,I right click on it and from the drop down menu.Send to Mail recipient. It then gives you keep original size or make email size.I always choose email size.Because the recipient can only see a small corner of the photo, and is difficult to see it as a whole.I got loads of them at one time

If you choose send pic by email, the photo will be automatically compressed
always best to add the photo by selecting insert file on your create mail

Unless a person has altered the bit on camera (forget which bit) that gives you more photos, that make them smaller. All digital photos are very large. So it best to just click on edit,if a person has put the camera disk into the computer it brings up the photo program for the camera.Mine one disk works for three different cameras.I also have my printer disk in my P.C that also has a photo editing program. So i have never needed to download one

Dpi and size of photo are two seperate issues
Example 1" = Dpi 300 Double to 2" - 2 X Dp300 power 2
But 1" dpi 300
double but Dpi same 2' = 300 dpi = 1X 300 Dpi power 1
300 DOTS PER INCH
Each square inch of photo has 300 dots (pixels), so a 2" square photo will have 4 times as many pixels as a 1" square photo.
