119 Percy Road, Shepherds Bush
« on: Sunday 28 June 09 14:00 UTC (UK) »

I am trying a new angle on finding my lost Gerald Davies Humphreys.  On his death cert. it says he was living at 119 Percy Road, Hammersmith.  His nephew, C.D. Snell (Charles) was living at 119 Percy Road, Shepherds Bush.

Are these the same place?  I am in Canada and not familiar with London's suburbs.

Also, is there anywhere that I can search to see who was living at 119 Percy road in 1917-1918?

Thanks so much!

Hi,

It's still there,  according to my 1999 copy of London Street Atlas.

It is a turning off the main Uxbridge Road (opposite to Thorpebank Road where I spent my first 4 years!)

The road has a dog-leg and ends at Askew Road.

Hope you can find it on something like G**gle Earth.

Hi - you can tell who was living there in 1915, at least: the exotic-sounding Astley De Borde Cooper: http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/issues/29295/pages/9126 (column 2)

He left a will, if you think there might be a connection.

It could have been a boarding house or lodgings of some kind....this chap seems like he is possibly a single man (otherwise his estate would perhaps have gone to a wife).

Just a thought

My family (grandparents, uncles, and parents) used to live very close to Percy Road, in Wendell Road, many years ago.

Hi Lorraine

I went to the London Metropolitan Archives today and looked at the Electoral Rolls for Hammersmith.

There aren't any for 1917.

In 1918 and 1919 the only eligible voter at that address was Anne Kippen.
