1911 GRAY Richard, Bromley **COMPLETED**
« on: Sunday 28 June 09 14:48 UTC (UK) »

sorry, I see I shouldn't have posted on the Kent lookup board

not sure if I should be on this board or Census Board!

Also I don't want to ask for anything illegal!

I was at the National Archive, Kew on Friday last - did all I had intended - had 15 minutes over so pottered round the War Office stuff -
and there was great-uncle Richard in Kent in WWI, last seen in Ireland in 1902. And I'd no time to look him up in the census. And I probably won't get back there till next year.

From the 1911 website, I know he and his son are the only Richard Grays in Bromley. I've found the names of all the Grays in the household, but I'm not sure of
... relationships to him, esp John and Susan - are they married, kids?
... where are some of them born

I hope this is an ok request - if not, sorry!

Sorry, you'll have to stump up to the 1911 site to find that out, unless you can eke something out with the relationship filter(s)

Hi Eadoin

No problem posting this on the Kent board if he/they were in Kent.

Yes, once you have the names & ages in the 1911 census, as Pauline suggests, you can use the relationship field ie. head/wife/daughter/son etc. to try and work out relationships or pay to get the full details.

Thank you, Pauline and Casalguidi

I hadn't realised that I could mess about with the relationships - now I know that all the kids are Richard's.
And by fiddling with keywords, both John and Susan are married ... to someone ... to each other??
(I'm most curious as to how they described their relationship with Richard - John isn't  (supposedly) a brother, cousin, guest, visitor, boarder  ... I even tried "bro"!)

Ah well, maybe I'll splash out on credits, or maybe I'll put him on the back-boiler till I visit London again! Thanks again for your help.

On Richard Gray's WWI Documents, his next of kin is his wife Alice.

Her address wasn't very clear - it looked like
???Joydene ..... (name of house?)
Greenstead something  (road, park, ave???)
Orpington

I've tried looking at Orpington maps on-line ... no luck
maybe a local person could tell me if Greenstead whatsit exists

If so, maybe there are electoral registers?

Hi

It would be Green St(reet) Green which is an area/settlement rather than a road etc..  The name of the house could also be "Ivy" Dene.
