Hi Margaret,
Henry GARLAND was Master of the District school at Quatt for 23 years before going to New Zealand in 1859.
On 18 Feb 2007 a descendant of Henry and Elizabeth GARLAND posted the following message on the RootWeb Eng-Shrop Message board;
"Henry and Elizabeth GARLAND are my gg grandparents who came to New Zealand in 1859 leaving behind two daughters namely Susannah Roach (husband Lewis) and Elizabeth Watkis (husband Theophilus). Henry and Elizabeth Garland were Governor and Matron of the South Eastern Shropshire District School up until they left for New Zealand. Susannah and her husband Lewis took these positions after Susannah's parents left. If there is anyone researching these families I would be most grateful if they could contact me. I am in the process of compiling a book on the lives of Henry and Elizabeth and their descendants covering the 150 years since they came here to NZ."
Gwynne
