JAmes & Cecelia CRAIG
« on: Sunday 28 June 09 19:20 UTC (UK) »

Am visiting my maternal grandmothers birthplace in couple weeks in West Lothian. Have only just discovered my paternal great grandparents were from Lanarkshire and would be keen to find addresses, family burial plots etc to visit whilst over here from Australia. Here's the info I have been given:

James and Cecelie Craig emigarted to Australia on The Star of India - London to Sydney arrived 16 Jun 1876
Listed as Assisted Passengers
written above the names under parents names and if alive their residence it says
Charles |James
Janet   | Christine
Relations in the colony Sister - Christian Doherty - Waratah

CRAIG James 23 from Lanarkshire
Calling - Blacksmith
Religion Presbyterian
Can read and Write
Relative in the colony

CRAIG Cecelia 20 from Lanarkshire parents Charles and Janet Craig
Religion Presbyterian
Can read and Write

Their child on the ship: Charles Craig aged 1 from Lanarkshire - Died in Port Jackson.

The marriage and birth of Charles are listed on the IGI

James GRAIG = Cecelia CRAIG 21 Nov 1873 Covan Lanark (QUESTION - is GRAIG a typo? And/or does the fact that both James and Cecelia have surname CRAIG mean they were related?)

Cecelia appears in Covan with her family in 1871 aged 15 born Glasgow  - parents Charles and Jean

James is also in Govan - a 19 year old blacksmith listed as brother in law to Thomas Muir (wife Mary) James and Mary list births in Partick.
Logged

Craig - Glasgow and Perthshire Scotland; Matthews - NSW; Marshall - Broxburn, Scotland and Antrim ireland; McVicars - Antrim Ireland
