Wallace NORTHWOOD - Dead or alive?
« on: Sunday 28 June 09 21:55 UTC (UK) »

I have a family of Wallace George Northwood married to Caroline nee Copperwheat. I purchased both the transcript & original of the 1911

Both census shows the family with with 4 children living--Archie 11,--George William 8,--Gladys May6 ,--Herbert Charles 3 . The original shows the death of one child.

There is my problem--i have, written down in my notes, that there were 5 children including Wallace George b 1904 so he would appear to be the child that died. The Northwood info was passed onto me some time ago and like an idiot i didn't write down the source!!

A Wallace George age 6 does shows up in another 1911 transcript as the son of another Northwood family, i have checked to see if the 2 fathers were possibly brothers but can find no connectionas i first thought that young Wallace was with relatives on census day, that was until i ALSO got the original census showing one dead child. I thought the transcripts may have been wrong.

Trouble is i cannot find a death for Wallace George anywhere between 1900 &1911 and looking at some Ancestry trees they have him married and living until 1971.!!

I've gone astray somewhere but where?? or are the Ancestry trees wrong??  poli Roll Eyes

Thank you for looking Carole,

The fact that Gladys May and Wallace George show up as born in the same quarter but with different page numbers would indicate to me that those two were not twins but 2 children born the same quarter but to 2 separate families?

If this is correct? then Wallace senior and wife Coroline did have one child that died but it was not named Wallace George?

Following that thought, then the Ancestry trees showing a Wallace George born to Wallace senior and wife have the wrong boy?

What do you think Huh

The only way out is to get the B.cert for the Wallace in the BMDs and see who his mother is i suppose. which unfortunately still leaves me wondering who the 5th child might have been-----o'h my head!! Roll Eyes poli

Hi

I never trust anybody else's tree unless it tallies with my own info.  People often make assumptions and in this case, the names Wallace George are unusual so somebody may have assumed he must belong to Wallace and Caroline

You could always contact the tree owner and ask if they bought the birth cert to confirm parentage

Have a look at this thread re: other peoples trees

I read through the thread and these 'discussions' will be around for ever i think. Online tree and the 'borrowing' of information that is correct or otherwise, is a subject that really gets people fired up!

I think i will contact the tree on which i found the 'iffy' Wallace George, explain as carefully as i can that he may not belong, explaining why i think so. Don't want to cause upset and yet hopefully they may be grateful and of course there is always the real possibility that i am completely wrong in the first place. Grin Grin
