Hi Toby

Perhaps I did not make it clear - you either click on my link to Google maps or go direct to google ( tjis is nothiong to do witht he census form itself) Google will show you a map of Stnadlynch which is a VERY small village. If you then select get directions and put Downton iin the to box Google will show you how far Standlynch is from Downton.

Basically Standlynch is a part of Downton in the same way that Brixton is part of London, also it shows in the census header:

Piece: HO107/1174/8 Place: Downton -Wiltshire Enumeration District: 8
Civil Parish: Standlynch Ecclesiastical Parish: -
Folio: 2 Page: 12
Address: -

If you need any more help with the google map send me a PM it will be easier on e mail

Hi all

I have uploaded my people to a new tree on Ancestry and called it Downton Families, it can be found here: http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/11921764/family

If anyone wants to be able to add edit etc let me have your e mails and I will 'invite' you on ancestry.

The Downton names in the list so far are:

Allen, Barrow, Brothers, Bryant, Chalk, Eastman, Hobbs, Hughes, Leopold (I think that may be an error), Light, Littlecott, Mogg, Moody, Mussell, Mussellwhite, Newman, Poore, Prince, Quinton, Shergold, Spratt, Witt and Woodward.

I hope we get lots of takers t could be a very useful resource for a lot of people.

Thank you

Hey Nicky,

My own research centres around the Eastman family lines at the moment.

I'm trying to search out Eastman marriages in the 1700s... I have a whole pile of guesses and assumptions, but I haven't been able to find anything that even resembles concrete.

I've got the 1500s, a tad of the 1600s but it's the 1700s that I'm stuck in.

The 1800s isn't an issue as my great-grandfather was born in 1885 (my grandmother's father) and his war records (which I have) has his parents on it and it was very simple to track his family.

I am also trying to seek out any more modern Eastmans who left Downton for other areas.

I have a Charles Poore who married Eliza Beaumont in Downton.
They had George Poore and Mary Ann Poore.
Charles later married Elizabeth Henderson after the death of Eliza.
In 1853 they came to Australia.

Hello Nicky

If you ever get the chance to go grave hunting I would appreciate any pics you could get of Honeywells, they were chair makers an basket weavers so perhaps a bit better off than ag labs so maybe they had headstones.

Anything I can do for you in return - ask

Hi Don

I have added your info, I had Charles already but not spouse and kids - thanks. After I put them in a link with another tree came up showing Eliza dying in 1852 and Charles remarrying an Elizabeth Henderson be fore going to Oz.

I have checked with Free BMD and an Eliza Poore died Mar qtr 1852, a Charles Poore married Elizabeth henderson Dec qtr 1852

It is always possible that these are not your people you have any thoughts on this? Seems to be related to a MAry Price

Hi again Sandra,
They are mine. Charles, Elizabeth and Edward (Elizabeth's illegitimate son,  George, Mary Ann and Jane (cannot find her birth c.1852/3.) came to Australia on board the "Magdalena" in May 1853. They settled in South Australia where they had 4 more children.
George married Emily Davis and Mary Ann married Richard Hounslow.

Kind regards,
Don.
P.S.A 6th cousin of mine is a Jan Mary Price(her maiden Name)

Hi Don

Thanks for that I will add the extra info. An Edmund kept coming up with Elizabeth, probably a typo then.
