William SPENCER, yeoman of Dauntsey
« on: Wednesday 18 August 04 21:13 UTC (UK) »

I am looking for information on William Spencer, yeoman of Dauntsey who married Mary Nicholls in Brinkworth on 12 December 1773. They lived in Dauntsey and had a number of children. They are my ancestors and I am keen to find more about their ancestry and families. Any help gratefully received. Thank you.

Hey there, did you dig anything up. I'm searching for info on the same guy. I'm a descendant of his son Edwin.

Hi rustydog,

Welcome to RootsChat.  Grin

There is a marriage licence Bond between William SPENCER yeoman of Dauntsey and Mary NICHOLS of Brinkworth 11 Dec 1773.

I noticed he appeared as bondsman on a lookup I did earlier today. (Luke DORE)

Hi Kris,

Yeah, thanks for the welcome.  It would appear I have to order their marriage cert through Latter Day Saints?

I sent Clive Henly an e-mail, as he transcribed their cert for his website http://www.henly.f9.co.uk/wiltshire.html.  Hopefully he's still around as his site homepage says it was last updated 1998.

Cheers, R.Dog

Hello Rustedog,

Wow!!!!! I am descended from Edwin as well through daughter Eliza who married Charles Morgan and came to New Zealand to live. Eliza is my great grandmother. How do you fit in?

Oh, I am drawing a blank with our William. I think, just think that Mary may be the daughter of William and Mary Nicholls but of course I could be waaay off the mark there!

Hello Hunybax,

Nice to hear from you.  I would say we are pretty closly related.  Eliza is my great great grandmother, one of Alice Louisa Morgan's children Syd is my grandfather.

You may be right with William and Mary Nichols, difficult to confirm tho.  Looking at this website http://www.henly.f9.co.uk/wiltshire.html, you could be on the mark, with their daughter Mary Nichols baptised 25 Jun 1755.

I thought it possible though that the same person Mary Spencer who was buried 9 Feb 1826 could be our one too, but would put her birth 1741.
