Hi Patricia

I think you're going to need to send for their marriage certificate  Undecided

I've looked on the 1851 and 1861 censuses.

I can't see either a Baker or a Fletcher saying they were born Smalley - which Sarah says in 1871 and 1881  Roll Eyes

I also looked at the birth reg. for Belper, there are 3 Sarah Fletchers 1844-1849;  no Sarah Bakers.

The marriage certificate is going to be the only way to find out for sure  Undecided

or get a childs Birth Cert to reveal Sarah's maiden name  ....... altho the Marriage Cert would give you a better search option with (hopefully) Fathers name too ...

PS. where did this info come from ?

Quote
.... sarah, ( maiden name unknown)
born 1848 mosbro, derbyshire .....

 Cry  Embarrassed

Looked for likely Sarah's now in Mosbro, but none with those surnames - possible Barker b. 1850  Undecided

Only a Sarah Fletcher registered Chesterfield 1845-1850 Undecided

Certificate, me thinks   Roll Eyes

Hi, You were enquiring about a Police Constable George Buckley. My list of Derbyshire Police Officers (6000 enteries and not yet complete) has one Jno Wm Buckley, Pc 188, joined the Derbyshire Constabulary (the county had 4 different police forces at that time) on 19/01/1871 and left 30/01/1901. Information held at Derbyshire Records Office, Matlock : Force Descriptive Register Ref D3376 / OS / 5/5, page 20.  A William Buckley (could be the same person?) is recorded in another Descriptive record book Ref D3376 / OS 1/1, page 26. He joined the force on the same day aged 22 yrs. I hope this is your relative. The books hold brief information about the officer, his good and bad conduct records, where he was from and any previous occupation. All the best.   Mike
