I wasn't really sure where to put this so sorry if its in wrong place. A am doing some research for my gf's family tree - named Wooler.
I am seraching for her gt grandfather named Harry Douglas Wooler (born in West Ham area), he married Beatrice Stobler, I know in 1909 they got married and later that year had a son of the same name.
They had a further three children with the latter (Mary A Wooler in 1914); I know that Harry senior died at sea but would now like to search for that information but I don't know how to go about it.
Any advice would be great.

I had a distant relative who "supposedly" died at sea. I was advised to research the main registrars office nearest to the coast where he died. However, there were no records there, or indeed anywhere else of his death, even though I had a date for his death, which had been passed on through the family. His wife had a son which "could" have been his, but she re-married after her husbands "death" and the son already had the new husbands surname, although he had been born some years previously!!! We assume from this that she'd had an affair, and her husband conveniently "died at sea" to leave her free to marry the father of her child. Apparently this did happen occasionally, it was cheaper and more acceptable than the stigma of divorce. Maybe another option to explore!!!

Well, there family storey goes is that Harry and Beatrice had at least four children, Harry died at sea (persumably after 1914 when May was born) and Beatrice later had another child called Ethel with someone else.
However the four children I have found so far were all sent for adoption because Beatrice couldn't provide for them. Sadly I have no dates for Harry's death and in the 1911 census he isn't in the house although Beatrice is listed as married (aged 21 - could be a clue as to Harry's age), but without information on Harry I'm a little stuck at the moment.
