Garstang St Helens (Churchtown)
« on: Saturday 06 June 09 16:34 UTC (UK) »

I am hoping to visit this churchyard looking for ancestors and wonder if anyone knows if there are graves there from the 18th century 1750's and 1780's in particular.

If anyone is very close and able to have a look I can let you know the names I'm looking for, but am quite prepared to come up and look if I think there are old gravestones still standing there.

Regards

The church has its own website and there's a long list of contact telephone numbers there: http://sthelensgarstang.org/component/option,com_contact/catid,12/Itemid,3/

I pass it regularly, but to my shame have never stopped and looked round.  Looking at the interactive tour on their website, it's worth a stop.

When I visited England in 2007, I visited this Church and graveyard in search of my ancestor (Richard Knagg), to my delight I discovered his very old grave stone, I have uploaded a couple of photo's, one of the church and one of my ancestors grave stone, he died 16th August 1832...but I'm sure there were a lot of others with earlier dates, but not all were readable, Richard Knaggs needed some working out...
