Good afternoon,
I would be grateful for the 1891 & 1901 Census details for the following household please:
Alfred FOREMAN b. Kirtling, Cambridgeshire Ada (wife) née WRIGHT) b. Osmotherley
Alfred & Ada were married in 1877 and by 1881 had 3 children:
- Robert Humphrey b. Danby Wiske 1877 - Beatrice Ann b. Guisborough 1879 - Ethel Maud b. Middlesbro' 1881
In 1881 the family was living at 29 Allan St. in Middlesbro'. Alfred's occupation is recorded as: General Labourer
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Nick

Nick,
I think that this is your family in 1891.
12 Marl Street, Middlesbro
Alfred Foreman Head Married 39 Shipyard Labourer born Kirtling, Cambridge Beatrice Ann Foreman Dau 10 Scholar born Skelton, Yorkshire Ethel Maud Foreman Dau 11 Scholar born Middlesbro, Yorkshire Martha Spedding Boarder 24 General Serv (Dom) born Sunderland, Durham Annie Spedding Boarder 3 months born Middlesbro, Yorkshire
It would appear that Alfred's wife Ada was not with the rest of the family on the night that the census was taken, I will take a look for her and post any details which I find. I will also look for the family in 1901.
Best Wishes CJL

Good evening CJL,
Many thanks for posting the 1891 details. Much appreciated. If you would be kind enough to give me the references, ie RG12/Piece/Folio/Page etc I would be grateful.
The 1901 details would be a bonus when you have a moment !
Many thanks,
Nick

Good Evening Nick,
Here are the references for the 1891 census,

Still looking for the family in 1901, do you want me to try and find son Robert in 1891?

Sorry, I lost the reference details .. as you can see the age on FreeBMD below isn't specific enough, but the actual copy looks as though he might be the one.

Good evening Pels,
Could very well be my Alfred you've found. Which could explain why he wouldn't appear in the 1901 Census.
Maybe Ada was a widow, or conceivably re-married. Will check this out. Thanks a lot for your input. Could put a new light on things !

Thanks for the RG ref. CJL.
If you have a moment, son Robert would be interesting. I hadn't got that far yet ! I was just doing a basic follow up on the family before getting down to further details.

Looks like you've hit the nail on the head !
Your input has been invaluable - many thanks. An interesting story to unravel !
FreeBmd has the births of: - Annie Spedding FOREMAN 03.1891 - John Thomas Haworth FOREMAN 12.1889 - Percival Haworth Foreman 06.1892
Looks like both Albert & Ada had gone their separate ways and started new families. Haven't as yet found a marriage John Haworth/Ada Foreman, but the 1901 details could be just for form as they were living together.
Thanks for your help once again.
Best wishes,
Nick

You are more than welcome.
The census image for 1891 for Robert Humphrey was very feint, I think that it actually reads Castle Howard Reformatory School.
If you would like me to look for Beatrice and Ethel, let me know.
Best Wishes CJL

Hallo again,
Just found a marriage for John Haworth & Ada in 12.1900 in Lancashire, so it looks like they finally formalised their situation !
Beatrice & Ethel would be over and above the bounds of duty, ........but I won't say 'No' if you really have the time and the inclination ! I haven't as yet had time to go down that road as I am trying to compile the families of Ada and her siblings, all brothers and sisters of my G Grandmother - and there were 10 of them !
I'm going to give it a rest for tonight once I've Ada and her details on file. I'm an hour ahead of you so it's 0.30 am here and time for my bed !
Thanks once again for your invaluable help.
Nick
