spearing & Adsley family
« on: Monday 29 June 09 19:19 UTC (UK) »

Hello,

I am trying to find out about John James Spearing & his wife Charlotte (Adsley) born 1852 in Gravesend.  They married in 1883 in Gravesend. I have been unable to find them on 1891 census, but have found Charlotte on 1901 census a widow with her some Frederick born Gravesend 1886 also with them is Charlottes sister Sarah Adsley born 1854, they are living in Folkstone.  I have been unable to find a death for John James Spearing, between 1883 & 1886, he was a ships steward so I guess could have died away from home.  I would like to find out what happened to him & also to Charlotte & son Frederick.

Any help or advice would be great
Thanks

Hi Jan

Frederick would appear to be Albert John F see http://freebmd.rootsweb.com and http://www.1911census.co.uk/

There appears to be a death 1922 in the Elham registration district which could be Charlotte http://freebmd.rootsweb.com

Have you seen the marriage for Charlotte & John James in one of the Gravesend district parish registers online http://cityark.medway.gov.uk/ ?  Just wondering if there is anything further given for John James ie. age/name & occupation of father etc.?

Thanks for that, yes I have found Fredericks bpt & Charlotte & Johns marriage on Cityark (one of my fav websites!!!).

Johns age is not given on the marriage cert only "full", he is a marriner from Gravesend & his father is George Spearing - (dec).

On Fredericks bpt record on 14th Nov 1886 at St Peters & St Pauls Church, Milton-Next-Gravesend.  John James is a  Ship Steward. living at 22 Prospect Place.

I guess he could have died at sea, would anyone know how I could find anything out about that on the internet ??
