The Ring now controlled city politics, with Mayor Joseph Sweeney and Treasurer Charles Kelly. Sweeney resigned in 1909, and city council appointed W. F. Robinson as mayor. A collapsing wall killed Robinson when the Buckler Building burned on August 14, 1910. The city council next considered J. I. Hewitt and Charles Kelly for mayor, and on August 23, 1910, Charles Edgar Kelly became the new mayor. The reformers were out, Morehead’s power was gone, and the Democratic Party was in the hands of the vibrant Kelly.

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth.

many thanks.  I not so sure about the USA reference but there is definitely a family legend concerning why the Sweeneys left Ireland which would tie in with the Easter Rising reference.

More research required... Wink

Hi
Best way as said!** Contact the Wakefield Social studies library as they are independent from the archive office and do free 1/2 look ups, bearing in mind they know where and what to look for!! as the history. Also advice.
There could be more than one Joseph Sweeny with a  coal miners and that Irish don't seem likley as same one . But so little on the net!! therefore the Library. If its local crime or similar (miners union activety) the  local newpapers who will have it between. 1901 or before/1911 c's

If Goolge books and the large search engines don't bring anything up then its as above.

Best I can surgest to get answers and results . You could take/look years on online forums by chance hope of a ?   ... find!

Good Luck though! Never give up hope.
