Please can you date this as well as clean and restore
« on: Monday 29 June 09 20:38 UTC (UK) »

Hi clever people,

Here is a photograph of my portrait of my lovely Grandpa, it hand on the wall on the landing.

He was born 1875 but I have no idea when this portrait was done unless it was just after his wedding, having said that I have a matching one of my Gran which you kindly did with their son, b1902 about 5 years old.

Any info would be good, he was a wonderful man.

PS The frame is oak and the original frame by the way.

Oh thank you Irene, what a wonderful difference,

When he was asleep one afternoon, my mum and her friend sneaked up on him with a pair of scissors each and that was the last of his 'tash! They snipped it one each side!

That story always made me laugh, he went to twiddle it and nothing there!  Poor chap.

Hi Xin,

I know it is funny, but please be an angel and put it back because clean shaven doesn't suit the clothing and I want it for my Cuz! I suspect he was cross though don't you!

You are clever though!  Wish I could do things like that!

Not sure that this is much of an improvement, but I'm finding out what a few more buttons do

Hi  Xin, Robert, Bill, moroc,

Superb restores from you all and so very different.  Amazing!
Thank you all so much

The portrait has bloom on it and I think that to have it cleaned will ruin it it seems to be printed on some sort of very fine cloth like a painting.

Hi Everyone,

I have changed the heading because I would like some opinions from the experts on the date of this picture.

I would also be grateful if anyone could hazard a guess at his age!

Thanks to everyone!
