Hello, I'm looking for my g-g-grandmother' death, name is Ann Taylor or Durward. I can find her all the way up to 1881 cencus ,where she is living with her son & family ,in drumforber ,laurenckirk. but as she is not on 1891 cencus i take it she must have died . I have looked for her on Scotlandspeople for deaths but cant come up with anything , (in 1881 she was aged 81). I thought deaths would have to be registered ?.....i mean they couldnt have just buried her anywhere without registering her ?
well! she certainly is a mystery .

Hello Snowolf
In all of Scotland 1855 to 2006 - there is only 1 Ann/e Taylor, other name Durward death. (from SP).
1896 TAYLOR ANN DURWARD F 68 ABERDEEN OLD MACHAR ABERDEEN CITY/ABERDEEN 168/02 0850
Unless you've downloaded this entry and discounted it? If the above is not her - with a mistranscribed age, she died outwith Scotland. Also as you say, there is the problem of being unable to find her on the '91 census- I've tried Ann/e Durward (85 to 95 yrs)without success?
Good luck with your search

Hello Piglet & Roma, Thankyou for your help in finding Ann.
I had a look for Ann Taylor death 1896 ,but unfortunatly its not her , wrong parents ect . the other Ann Taylor for 1891 cencus ..mmm... it would be her age right enough only but mines was born in garvock , (the one on census was Aberdeen ). THEN again IF it was her i dont have a clue as to why she would be a boarder,as none of the toman's seem to be a relative.
i guess she's still a mystery. thanks anyway Snowolf

Hi Snowolf
Guess your Ann is a bit of a mystery lady after all - have solved part of your query but now got another one !!!
Was having a wee look at this and found Ann on Ancestry in 1841 with some of her sons but wasn't so sure about possible entries for 1851-61-71. I then found her with son William in 1881 as you said in Laurencekirk. Nothing promising for deaths in Kincardineshire either. I then decided to check where William was in 1891 and found him in Logie Pert, Angus, only a couple of miles from Laurencekirk.
So I then decided to look at deaths in Angus too as she may have been with them when they moved sometime between 1881 and 1891, also I have come across some relations who lived in Kincardineshire dying in Montrose hospitals just across the county border. Anyhow on Scotlandspeople I looked for Ann* Taylor b1800 +/- 5 years dying between 1881 and 1891.
The first on the list was Ann Taylor - other name Thomson - aged 82 - d 1882 - Logie Pert. Right age and possible place of death - but Thomson did not look promising, (none of the sons Ann had with her in 1841 had that name - and you did not mention it in your post) - however - and here is the strange bit - it was marked as already having been paid and avaialable to view !!! So nothing to lose I took a look - turns out I had looked at this cert already for one of the other entries on the page.
Ann was shown as the widow of an Andrew Thomson, General Labourer and parents were James Taylor and Ann m.s. Ley. I had been hoping to see the mother's maiden name as Douglas as that would have fitted with the birth of Anne Taylor in 1801 in Garvock - however on death certificates the parents' names of elderly folk are often given wrong. BUT - moving across to see who had registered the death - none other than William Durward, Son !!!
So looks like this is your Ann's death certificate - but who was Andrew Thomson and when did she marry him !!!
Like I say solved one problem for you but given you another.
Regards
Susan.
