thanks for that
the other sister Annie Elizabeth who where and when did she marry if you have the certificate?
any clues on that if so?
I ask all these question because sometimes we can find parents especially widowed parents living with their children on the electoral rolls

Thanks for looking that up Cando seems you have found him and if it is his death in 1915 at Newtown well Scott could order this death certificate through a transcription agent
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,300394.0.html
You will get the actual date of deaths for the Bognuda at the Ipswich cemetery and photos of the grace also http://www.ozgenonline.com/aust_cemeteries/qld/ipswich/anglican_a_af.htm

FreeBMD has a marriage of a James Albert HOLMES Dec qr 1865, reg Birkenhead, Vol 8a, p 742. On the same page is a Catherine Davies, so perhaps they were married before emigrating. (In much of the UK, and particulalry in Wales, "Davies" and "Davis" are pronounced the same - "Davis"; and I see the death posted by jamjar uses the 'Davies' spelling.)
And I wonder if this is him on the 1861 census RG9/3160 address: Greenfield, Caton, Lancashire James A HOLMES, son, 20, plumber and painter, b Caton, Lancashire He is with parents, John J and Elizabeth HOLMES, four sisters, a brother and a nephew. I think you have acess to UK censuses? I didn't post all the info but am happy to if you would like it.
Not sure if either of these are yours or not, but the occupation seems to point to it being a possible. Caton and Birkenhead are about 60 miles apart though.
Cheers, Judith

Good find there Judith,
I will admit to assuming that Scott had checked the Uk Census . because he seen to have access.
So that would put his birth around 1841.
If it is their marriage in 1865 one could assume that they probably emigrated shortly after as their first child Annie Elizabeth was born 24/12/1866., then Mary Isabella was born 19/9/1868 and then a long break to Catherine Agnes 13/5/1875 she died 26/6/1875.
There is no death for either a James Holmes or a Catherine Davies up to 1888 ( checking QLD Pioneer BDMS)

Searching For Ancestors

Hi All,
WOW!! Thank you all very much
Sounds right I found Catherine last night before I went to bed died in 1902 at Sydney
Parents James & Catherine on BDM of NSW
Narrowed down the dates from the information Cando provided on the 1903 electoral roll
1900 -1903 (1900 when Mary Isabella Was married) & 1903 where James Albert Holmes appears on the electoral Roll
There she was .
I have limited access on ancestry where I can't see certain censuses but I can still search
It sounds right with the census records thanks Judith , but yes still need to find more evidence to confirm as the rule of 3 right in order to verify the correct James
Cheers

The only way you will actually confirm you have the right couple is to buy the birth of one of the children in Qld an expense I grant that, but will verify so much. Qld certifcates are only able to ordered and paid for at any qld registery office or send the form through the post and not one line more is the pity. There is a long wait for the certifcate to come.
No don't assume that Catherine had died before 1903 as it was not complusory to register to vote back then and a lot of women certaily didn't.
