ANN ELIZABETH HOLDSWORTH

WHAT I NEED TO ESTABLISH IS;

Was Ann the child of Mary TORR or Mary NETTLEM

Hi Trish

Is the Mary NETTLEM you speak of, the "Mary Eliza HOLDSWORTH who died NZ - 1894"  ?
[Online death index gives her age as 74 ??  born circa 1820??)

*   If so, do you have the death printout for this Mary Eliza ?

An 1894 NZ death record, gives a lot of helpful information
... it includes "ages and sex of living issue"  (+ "Years in NZ").

The death record should tell you the ages of the "still living" children, who were born to Mary Eliza   ... and thus confirm whether Ann Elizabeth, was her daughter.   Wink

Hi there Trish,

Re Death cert Annie SHAW nee Holdsworth, age 89, Time in New Zealand is 80yrs (arrival approx 1850) aged 9. This would make her born abt 1840. Could she have arrived in NZ with other family members?

I have noticed online that there are transcriptions for HOLDSWORTH arrivals in NZ include a family - Sailed London August 12th 1852 - arrived Lyttelton December 10th 1852 on the CORNWALL.

The transcription of the family would probably list the adult/s first, and "Ann" is mentioned a couple of times  Wink
G
Mary Ann
Ann Catherine
William G
Eliza Jane
John
Ann
Frederick
Emily

Hopefully some of the Wellington NZ based RChatters would be able to follow this up further.   (I am NSW based)

Trish   Smiley

You must be getting weary of seeing this (wrong HOLDSWORTH family),  1852 passenger list ?   Cheesy

Probably helpful to all, to add the link to your thread on the NZ board ?

Hi JM Smiley,

Thank you for that but it is not them unfortunately.

Hi Lu,
I have the death cert of Mary Eliza Holdsworth 1894. But it has no female living children listed only 2 males 48/40 Roll Eyes
She was born 1809 not 1820ish . As she died from senile decay the informant maybe got things wrong.there should have been 3/4 sons and at least 1 daughter alive at the time of her death.

I have sent for the printout tonight thru my neice in Wellington Grin
Hopefully it will reveal more.

I think I will leave this enquiry at that until printout is obtained.

Thank you everyone.

Cheers,
Trish

Hi Trish,

Sorry for finding the Cornwall voyage - I was not aware this was the wrong Holdsworth family.

Have you considered the arrival in Australia of Benjamin and Anne Holdsworth and family  on the Lady Kennaway in 1850 to Port Phillip?  as per NSW State Archives index?

I think the arrival date in Victoria would be around end of February 1850.  The HOLDSWORTH passengers on the Lady Kennaway voyage were probably:
Benjamin aged 34 and Anne aged 34
Joseph Robert aged 24
Joseph aged 11
Caroline aged 7
Ann Eliza aged 4
Martha Jane aged 2

Hope this helps.

Good work Osprey !   Smiley

(Yes, Benjamin m. Ann FISHER was the tree I found, Trish).

Trish ... with all this conflicting info you have from various certs, regarding "when" the HOLDSWORTHs "arrived" in NZ, an ITM notice for Ann Elizabeth's 1869 marriage, may be of additional help ?   (Bride will have stated "how long" she had lived in the district she was to be married in.    That's not necessarily "length of residence in NZ" though, if she had lived elsewhere  ... but may turn up a clue ?)

[You can post a look-up for the ITM on NZ Board].

Trish

Again on A*** message board ... someone researching Eliza HOLDSWORTH's husband, William FRY ... has a copy of the ITM for that marriage (1863).

[Sorry, can't find the specific link  ... 2005 message from memory - poster kiwim87 - I think ?? ].
