In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth.

Just pulled out all info;
Eliza Holdsworths ITM, Otahuhu, has Length of residence 5yrs in 1863,doesnt mean they were elsewhere in NZ first

Found in the pile of stuff sent to me, bad photocopy of register of William Holdsworths death cert. Died 1878, aged 38, time in NZ 26yrs, so 1852

My HEAD HURTS;
Off to clean up.

Hi Trish

[Nah ... you're not.   Cheesy]

That's all good info ... from the ITM's and d/c for William HOLDSWORTH.

Okay  .. perhaps none of it is absolutely accurate, but it tends to suggest that the family arrived in NZ much earlier than 1860.  Wink

Hi Trish

Further confirmation :

AUCKLAND - JURY LIST - 1856-57

HOLDSWORTH - David - Chapel Street - draper & grocer

Daily Southern Cross - 5 February 1856 - "Jury List 1856-57"   (PapersPast)

From same newspaper, this oddity ?

10 February 1857 - page 4 - "Jury List"

HOLDSWORTH - Daniel ??  Onehunga - Storekeeper

[I would say "Daniel" is a bad transcription of "David" - have seen this before].

 ....  this further entry, seems to clarify ?

3 March 1857 - "Election"   (List of entitled voters)

HOLDSWORTH - David - Chapel Street - Onehunga - settler (Household qualification).

Thank you Lu. That info is absolutely fantastic Smiley
It really narrows down the date of arrival to confirm the other info.
