I am finding it very difficult to obtain information on my Grandfather's 1st World War records. I do not know whether I have sufficient information and finding anything out in the National Archives seems a nightmare, to a novice. Can anyone help me, please.
The person that I am seeking information on, is Harold William Pearson. He was born in Essex in 1886. I am not sure what time he joined the Army, but he had an occupation of Drill Instructor in December 1911. I'm not sure whether that was a military position or not. I do know that he was in the 26th Reserve Brigade 109th Training Reserve 19th (Reserve) Battalion, the King's Royal Rifle Corps in 1917 and that he was a Quartermaster Sergeant.
I am seeking any information at all that might help me in my family research. One other point, which is something of a family "myth" is that he assisted in drawing up the Kings regulation at the War Office, and that he had received a letter from Lloyd George, thanking him for his contribution.
I know that my grandfather died at the age of 45 and had had, a bad heart for a number of years prior to his death. It seems that this defect ran in the family, so it was rather surprising that he got in the Armed Forces in the first place.
I realise that the information that I am providing is rather sparse, but I am hoping that someone may be able to provide some information on my grandfather.

Wendy47 Thanks for your considerable help. I have found the following (see below), and although it is progress it means very little to me. What happened after 1 September 1916? There was still 2 more years to go. The Harold Pearson of the Kings Royal Rifles could be him. How can I check the records from his regimental number?
'19th (Reserve) Battalion Formed at Bexhill in October 1915 from the depot companies of 16th Bn. Moved to Andover and in February 1916 on to Banbury. Moved on to Wimbledon in May 1916. 1 September 1916 : converted into 109th Training Reserve Battalion of 26th Reserve Brigade at Wimbledon.'
Thanks again
Bill

Hello Bill,
On the National Archives, there are two MICs coming up for 11440/575043, one under H Pearson and one under Harold Pearson. Unfortunately, only the Harold Pearson card is on Ancestry. That is for the Victory and British War Medals. The other card may be for a Silver War Badge.
There is also a Silver War Badge MIC for a Harold W Pearson, Pte 504807, Labour Corps (371 Home Service Employment Company), ex KRRC. He enlisted 26/09/14 and was discharged due to sickness 5/10/18.
It does not look like he saw overseas service, as I can't find another MIC for him.
It is more than possible that none of the above are your grandfather. If he remained in the UK throughout the war as an instructor etc and was not discharged due to sickness during that time, there will not be any MICs for him.
Phil

Hi Phil,
Thanks for looking into my problem. I'm afraid you'll have to bear with me as I am so green on this subject, so I'm not aware of any of the medals and badges. The comments regarding Harold W Pearson is interesting as that was precisely the name of my grandfather (assuming the W stood for William). However, I am only aware that he was a Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant in the King's Royal Rifles. Maybe he started off as a Private and worked his way up? I do not believe that he saw overseas service.
