Military History
« on: Tuesday 30 June 09 11:10 UTC (UK) »

I'm lost again I think, having discovered in a previous post that my gf's gt grandfather was killed at Sea during WW1 (see below) I have searched through the National Archives to see if I can find any information about Harry (service records etc) as well as what happened to the boat. However I can't find anything!

Harry Douglas Wooler
d. 14/04/1916
Service # 4346/B
Ship: HM Trawler Orcades

Advice on what to do would be great. I also have an account with Ancestry if that would help me find anything; sadly millitary isn't my forte.

HMT Orcades was sunk on that date by a mine off Grimsby.
The mines were attributed to the U-boat UC-7

I have seen and noted this down, the only problem with it is that on the Commonwealth Graves it lists his age at death as 37 (in 1916) so am wondering if it is an error or if its the same person?

Hello,
you could give C.W.G.C. a call to take any doubt away. They are very helpful.
The Registers in my experience do contain mistakes, but a telephone call will tell you what is on the Master Register.
