Avast-anti virus query

The panel on my Windows security centre shows that my Virus programme --Avast--is OFF-- it's the Home edition, free.

I have managed to get a new licence key number, inserted it into the right place--my screen then says 'Thank you' and i exit..but--when i return to the security centre page Avast still shows OFF--what am i not doing--anybody now??  Roll Eyes poli

Hi Poli,

When you right click on the blue avast icon in your taskbar, what does it say in the last line? Does it offer 'start' protection, or 'stop'?
(I'm thinking that maybe the resident protection has simply been turned off)
