As advised by Heywood and Mum44 I have created this thread to trace the lineage of John Unwin b.1858 Macclesfield.
John Unwin was B: in 1857 in Macclesfield, Cheshire:
With the support of the Forum and 'Heywood's' Manchester Central Library archive parish search we established he was married in February 21st 1876 St James Gorton.
John Unwin 19 yrs Bachelor; a Smith ; Residence Gorton Father: George Unwin; Banksman. Sarah Lucy Jones 22 yrs Spinster; a Winder ; residence Gorton Father: David Jones; a Smith both signed own names Witnesses: Frederick Jones and Mary Goodwin
'Lanclass' discovered that Sarah Lucy Jones was born in Chorlton 1876 and that her death was recorded in Chorlton 1889 as Sarah Lucy Unwin aged 35 yrs.
1881 RG11; Piece: 3904; Folio: 41; Page: 25
In 1890 he re-married: Marriage 24th November 1890 All Saints Gorton Also on Lancashire BMD marriage 1890 to Eliza Getliffe.
John Unwin 33 yrs Widower; a Carter 22 McCormack (?) Street Father: George Unwin; Foreman (?) Eliza Getliffe 23 yrs Spinster ; Piecer; same address Father: John Getliffe ; Carder both signes own names Witnesses: Joseph Saunders (?) and Mary Ann San.... (her mark)
I found and agreed with Heywood that in 1891 RG12; Piece: 3175; Folio 47; Page 32
John and Eliza were living at 22 McCormack Street Gorton
John Unwin 34 yrs Carter b Macclesfield Eliza 23 yrs b Ashton Emma 14 yrs Cotton Carder Sarah Ann 11 yrs Arthur Wm 10 yrs Martha Ann 8 yrs George 6 yrs John 2 yrs Edgar Wm Gelliffe 11 yrs b Denton (Eliza's previous married name or maiden name as Edgar may be illegitimate?)
In 1901 we have John and Eliza living at RG13; Piece: 3686; Folio: 162; Page: 38 3 Lilly Street Gorton John Unwin 47 general labourer b Manchester Eliza Unwin 33 b Ashton Thomas Unwin 3 b Denton Ann Unwin 3 months b Gorton
Can we trace John's father i.e George Unwin and his mother back?

Hi,
Suspect he didn`t marry Sarah Rothwell/Critchley until 1882 at St. James Gorton.
Sarah Ann Rothwell aged 36 and her Son Arthur Critchley aged 7 (transcribed Cretchley) can be found on the 1871 census living in Macclesfield:
RG10/3672 folio 128 page 18.
I believe Emma Unwin died aged 36 in 1872.
Regard, Mo

We need to back track a moment; as were off track :-)
as I explained above 'Heywood' visited the anchester Central Library archive parish archive and searched to discover the marriage of john and his spouses:
On February 21st 1876 St James Gorton. John Unwin 19 yrs Bachelor; a Smith ; Residence Gorton with his Father: George Unwin; Banksman as witness married the spinster Sarah Lucy Jones 22 yrs Spinster; a Winder ; residence Gorton sarahs father David Jones; a Smith also bore witness.
Both signed own names and were witnesses: Frederick Jones and Mary Goodwin.
Therefore in 1881 we need to locate a John Unwin with Sarah Lucy Unwin and based upon the 1891 census and elimination of the children the following children:
Emma, Sarah Ann, and possibly Arthur.
I have Eliza Getliffe with her parents John and Ann at Rg11 piece 4046, folio 88, page 34 at 9 Dane Street Denton.

What is interesting is that between the 1881 census with Eliza and Getliffe family in Denton and her subsequent marriage to John the widow in 1891 Eliza may have had an iligitimate son i.e. Edgar Wm Gelliffe!
Your thoughts on finding the above 1891 census; Edgar and the census previous to 1876 wedding to Sarah Lucy Jones..
Thanks everyone great discussion and help love ya all!

Wendy awesome work. I matched you all the way but failed to find the Prison rfernce. Where did you find that?
The age of George doesn't match. In 1861 he should be 33/34 not 28. However I have searched through all other John Unwin's within his age and they are married.

I checked on A******y Census list before going into a specific year for any George Unwin's.
It may not be him but it is handy to have the reference for the future.
