Matthew, Catherine & Family, New Zealand.
|
Hi
I wonder if there is anyone willing to take some photo's for me? I have no idea if there are any headstones for these plots as no one from my family has ever been to New Zealand. They are of my Great Grandparents and their son Andrew.
Donnachie, Andrew Miller 25-12-1937: aged 22 Location: Area 3, Block X1, Lot No 77A
Donnachie, Kate 03-11-1915: aged 44 Location: Area 3, Block 11, Lot No 77
Donnachie, Matthew 01-09-1949: aged 76 Location, Area 3, Block 11, Lot No 77B.
My Great Grandfather did marry again but I have no idea if his last wife is buried in this area, if there is another Donnachie there I would love to know.
Many Thanks Mary

Hello Mary
Sorry, not able to help with the photos (I'm not in that area), but just answering your question re: Matthew's second marriage.
The NZ Marriage Index has the following record :
Matthew DONNACHIE - Elizabeth J. HOEY - year 1924 --------------------
AND ... also buried at Waikaraka Cemetery >>
DONNACHIE - Elizabeth Jane died 7 December 1954 - aged 70 years
Area 3 Block 11 Lot No. 77
(Which seems to be the same Plot as Kate DONNACHIE ??)
You can view the cemetery database, at the following link.

Hi again Mary
Yes, I wondered too.
I know of instances where a first and second wife, are buried in plots, either side of their husband, but two wives, together
Unless of course Catherine (Kate) and Elizabeth... were related in some way ? (Does that seem like a possibility to you ?)
And such a sad story, Catherine dying shortly after her son's birth.

Hi Mary
I just came across this (which seems could be the same Elizabeth Jane ?)
Divorce File at Archives New Zealand (Auckland) :
HOEY - Henry Gibson v. HOEY - Elizabeth Jane - 1922
[From NZ Marriage Index : Henry Gibson HOEY - Elizabeth Jane RITCHIE - m. 1919 ]
Can't see an "Elizabeth Jane RITCHIE" birth in NZ circa 1884 (though there is an Elizabeth RITCHIE b. 1885).

Hi Mary,
If you don't mind waiting a little longer, I will try and get the photos for you next time I go that way. I had it in mind but knew I wasn't able to do it for a while, now your request has been shifted to complete so thought I'd respond to say I've copied your info and always have my camera with me. If someone else beats me to it then I'll get the notification.

Understand, I have that situation frequently with my lot too sadly. I have spent a bit of time there looking for others, unfortunately there are a lot of plots unmarked or with broken headstones but probably no more than other cemeteries of a similar age and overall the grounds are very well looked after. Pleased though that koha took a look for you already ... thought perhaps it hadn't been done... mare
