Please help with brickwall
« on: Tuesday 30 June 09 15:54 UTC (UK) »

Hi can someone please help  Smiley,I have come up against a brickwall looking for my  Grandfathers family, parents and Grandads siblings.
 Huh
Here is what I have so far.

Thomas Henry Brown b;1875, Dover Kent, marr,Emma Duce,b;1874in the year 1897 in Maidstone Kent.
They had four children;
Thomas,b1899,London,marr,Alice Unknown ?
Jack/John,b;1901.Handsworth Staffordshire,marrAnnie Potter.
Herbert ,b;1903,marr,Ethel, Unknown b,1904,?
Ernest,b.1906,Birmingham West Midlands. marr,Eva Dicks in Battle Hastings.

What I would like help with is finding this family in the Census from 1881 with Thomas Henry Brown ,1875 and his wife Emma Duce,b1874.

We do know that Thomas Henry Brown  had a sister Nellie Brown,b1874 Dover ,Kent, but did they have other siblings  ??

Then my brickwall starts with their children and their wives. (Refer to above children of the marriage.)

My friend has just started her  Ancestry (cozerocks is her user name ) and  I am trying to help her.
But I have now come unstuck, and need some help .thank you  Embarrassed

You can search the 1881 yourself for free at www.familysearch.org

Alternatively - you can buy a copy of his marriage cert to find his fathers name as you may well find a number of Brown entries that match

or - buy a copy of his birth cert to find his parents names

Someone has a tree with these two in on An*****y - maybe it might be worth contacting them.

It gives Thomas' parents as Thomas Bishop Brown b.1843 Dorchester and Annie Artlett b.1854 Dover. It also has Emma's parents on there BUT you would need to verify them as their is no guarantee how accurate the tree might be

Have you checked freebmd for marriages and marriage years?

If you have an Ancestry subscription - you can check for Brown births after 1916 using the wives respective maiden names to find details of any children born to each couple

It is only a brickwall when you have exhausted all search criteria and found no information

Cant seem to locate Thomas henry in 1881 or 1891 - but wondered if this is a possibility for his parents and sister Nellie???

As Carole stated, you really need to purchase the marriage cert to be certain of father's name

Where did you get derails of Nellie from??

1891
135 Week St Maidstone Kent
Thomas B Brown head M Eating House keeper Dorchester Dorset
Annie wife 37 Dover Kent
Nellie daughter U coffee house assistant Dover kent
mary Wright servant U 18 general servant Boxley Kent
RG12 687 7 8

this is only speculation - but there is a nellie of correct p.o.b., Thomas henry called his son Thomas B (maybe after father???) and Thomas henry was a chef - Thomas B ket an eating house?Huh?

Lots of maybes?HuhHuh?
