james holsworth b approx 1811 salhouse
« on: Sunday 12 July 09 14:46 UTC (UK) »

Hi all

Ive reached a brick wall with this one, Im trying to find James parents and his wife Elizabeths maiden name.
I have them on the 1841 census at South Walsham and their oldest child is Richardb 1831 so presume they got married about 1830.
On the 1851 census James is down as Horsey and his birthplace is listed as Salhouse. Elizabeth is down as b1813 Blofield.
I have a freereg for James as being born Denver is this likely? also a marriage on 1830 Blofield with Elizabeth no maiden name.
I have gone as far as I can with this so any help, suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hi leofred

Salhouse is east of Norwich on the B1140 [my daughter lived there] as is Blofield [on the A47 and my other daughter lives there] and they are about 15 mins drive apart and long way from Denver, which is South of Kings Lynn in West Norfolk.
Horsey is almost on the east coast on the Norfolk broads and has a famous wind pumped mill. looked after by the National Trust

All these areas are lovely.  You'll need someone to look at the PRs. Have you looked at the resources at the top of the Norfolk Board?

Hi  Wendy,
I have unknowingly misled you Horsey was the name he was mistranscribed by on one census.
When his daughter got married her name was listed as Holdsworth.

Im just hoping  someone has access to Salhouse & Blofield Parish records to give me my answers.

Many years ago I spent a holiday on the Norfolk Broads and you are quite right they are Beautiful but being a Somerset girl  I missed the hills.

Kind regards
Jan

Hi Jan

The only one I can find on the Norfolk Marriage Index is
James Holesworth married Mary Church 16 Nov 1819 at South Walsham St Mary

have you checked out the Holsworth's on
http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/Search.pl

Hi Yokel

Thanks for your reply, shame it wasnt Elizabeth he married and the dates are all wrong but there is bound to be a connection.
The only one that half fits is the Denver baptism and as it was private perhaps she was visiting her parents and decided to have her baby baptised there. Pure speculation of course but Im running out of ideas.
This is one part of my tree and cant get beyond 1811 and Im even dreaming about it now shame Im not  phsycic.

Thanks again

kind regards
Jan
