Matthew WALKER to Ontario.
« on: Wednesday 26 August 09 20:55 UTC (UK) »

Hello,   Any ideas on where to go looking for details on this.

I have a Matthew Walker born 1866 Ballinfull, Co Sligo, Ireland who joined the Lancashire Police on 31 Jan 1890; whose records show his previous employer as labourer was a James Johnson, farmer in Kemble, Grey County, Ontario.

Don't know when or how Matthew went to Canada & then came back.

Any info would be nice

Thanks John

What were Matthew's parents' names? Did he have any brothers and sisters? I saw a few passenger list entries that are possibles but Matthew was a child. Passenger lists from that era don't give much information so anything more you can supply would be good.

I found a few entries for men named James Johnson/Johnston in Keppel, Grey County, Ontario on the 1871 and 1881 Canada census but they didn't have anyone named Walker living with them. There were a few Walkers in Keppel on those census but no Matthews.

Hello Jacquie,

Thanks for looking. Matthew's parents were Thomas Charles & Margaret Walker. They also baptised children Annie Jane 1864, William 1868 & Margaret 1871 in Co Sligo Ireland.

cheers John

He cannot have gone over to Canada as a child because at the weekend I saw a bible with a cerificate of his confirmation done in 1871 (aged 15)
