Hi,
I am looking for records relating to William Gibson Burns family. According to family lore, they had a daughter, Mary (b. 1822) and a son Jabez (b.1829). His wife was Elizabeth Herrick (or sometimes spelled Horrock). Mary and Jabez were born in Oldham-Bolton. There may have been other children.
Do you know of any records for this family? I
William Gibson Burn's daughter Mary is supposed to be my ggg grandmother. However, she married James Peter McPherson in Dundee in 1842. There is also a Mary Burns listed on the 1841 Scotland census for Dundee who is the right age, and she lived fairly closed to J.P. McPherson and both worked in the textile mills in Scotland. T'is a puzzlement to me, as to how and why and when she got to Scotland. So my first task is to make sure that she is indeed the Mary born to William Gibson Burns and Elizabeth Herrick.
Any help, that you can provide to me will be greatly appreciated. Please let me know the estimated cost. (Also I searched "findmypast.com with no luck.)

There is a family tree on An**stry stating this
William Gibson Burns born 6 feb 1801 Oldham, Lancs died 19 1879
Married to Elizabeth Herricks born 3 Sept 1786 died 17 Nov 1861
had a daughter Mary born 30 Jan 1822 Bolton Lancs
had a son Jabez born 12 Feb 1826 London
Is this a tree you have put on the site 
Oh by the way any information given on Roots is free, only thing you have to pay for is birth. marriage or death certificates from the GRO

Also found this - which seems to say the names, William Gibson BURNS and Elizabeth HERRICKS, come from recorded family information in the McPHERSEON family (daughter Mary):

WILLIAM GIBSON BURNS - born on 6 Feb 1801 in Oldham, Lancaster, ENGLAND, died on 9 Dec 1879.
1801 birth taken from IGI........... Family writings have the birth date as 6 Feb 1800, but no location.
He married ELIZABETH HERRICKS about 1820. She was born on 3 Sep 1786 in ENGLAND, and died on 17 Nov 1861. Existance of this person based on McPherson family writings.
The above also says son Jabez may have been born in New York?

Says Jabez died 1888 ?
Do you know where William or Elizabeth died? Or what William's occupation was said to be?

William Gibson BURNS and Mary Ann LANCASTER on same page - Ref: 1a, pg 586
This William Gibson BURNS was obviously set up with Mary Ann LANCASTER at least a year before they married.
If he is the right William, it might appear he married Mary Ann only after his legal wife, Elizabeth died?
