buildings in port glasgow
« on: Saturday 11 July 09 23:02 UTC (UK) »

Hi all
Does anyone knows of the Mirimachi buildings that stood at the glen in port glasgow.  I am keen to know what they were used for around 1923 - 1930 and who owned them.
Thanks

Hi Nina
the Miramichi buildings were used for offices for the Glen yard (ship builders)

Hi

I think Mirimachi House was orginally the family house of the Hamilton famiy who owned William Hamilton's Shipyard which became part of LIthgow's Shipbuilding in Port Glasgow. The yard was laterly called Lithgow's East Yard.

In the 1960's the building had various uses - it was a function suite, and also if I remember correctly at one time had a doctor's surgery as one of it's tenants.

Scott Lithgow then revamped the building in the late 1970's /1980's and used the Mirimachi Building as additional office space. With the demise of Shipbulding the building fell into disrepair and supermarket now graces the site where the Mirimachi buliding and shipyard once stood.

I know this is not the 1920's but hope you find this of interest.
