Looking for any information on Meek Family in Brompton by Northallerton. The farthest my info goes back is to:
Henry Meek (Unknown Birthdate) married to Margaret \Foggerthwaite\ Meek (Nov 25, 1755) in Brompton by Northallerton. (Henry Meek is my 5th Great Grand Father).
One of their Sons:
James Meek (Born 1761) was the Lord Mayor of York three times, 1836-7, 1848-9, 1850-51.
His son Sir James Meek (Born Feb 12 1790) was also Lord Mayor three times, 1855-6, 1865-6, 1866-67.
Sir James had a younger brother Thomas Mewburn Meek (Born May 27, 1796) A majority of my info starts from Thomas Mewburn Meek down. I have no info regarding Thomas Mewburn Meek's Siblings nor do I have anything farther back then Henry Meek. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks Kevin Meek

Hi Kevin and welcome to rootschat.
Re what you are asking on the other thread whose link brought me to here, The local library would know about Lord Mayoral officials and may have newspaper extracts and even photos... worth asking.

Kevin, obviously a prominent family, have you thought of joining the Meek DNA Programme, its run by a couple of guys in the US, Chris Meek & Fred Meek, I believe there were Meek's in York in the early 1300s, are these yours? Fred can be found at "winmeek"and Chris at "Chris Meek DNA", very interesting stuff, providing you have a traceable Meek line (not adopted or anything) ,charges are very reasonable but the results take a couple of months........Skoosh.

Cheers Kevin, I think the guys in the States had a notion of a common origin for the name Meek but the reality has proved otherwise and where the paperwork is non existent the DNA offers a reliable alternative. fascinating Stuff! why should the criminals monopolise the technology?..........Skoosh.
